|  Linksys WRT150N glitch Every now and then I'm having to power-cycle the router to re-enable internet access for a wireless workstation (draft G). Has anyone experienced this problem? A friend of mine with and older version of this router (draft G) has the very same problem. Firmware is the latest (July/2007). Thoughts?

| Re: Linksys WRT150N glitch Wow man ... it's sure been a while  I have had this kind of issue on and off with my Linksys router too. It comes and goes ... I have a feeling it's at the ISP's end. When it gets really bad, like two or 3 times a day, I call and yell at them. Then by some divine intervention the problem goes away for months, even years ...

Before the WRT150N I had a router (AirLink), a $25 piece of hardware, REALLY cheap, that didn't show any of those problems. Alas I've given it away after I bought the Linksys router. Linksys is owned by CISCO, and in portuguese (my native language), a "cisco" is a tiny fragment of matter that gets on your eye and cause you pain. I believe, then, that CISCO has gotten awfully globalized (man, I love puns).

| Re: Linksys WRT150N glitch Dear Whamblahblahblah,  Routers problems are numerous and random, whatever the make. Some don't have any problems, others keep having problems, and a firmware update doesn't necessary help (though recommended), or even might be worse. I guess you're meaning draft-N and not draft-G. Have you tryied an RJ45 cable connection, just to assure non-wireless connections are safe? For the wireless side, lots of interferences could happen: neighbourhood, someone passing throug the wireless wave, a working micro-wave device. You could also try to change the channels on the router. The same for the antennas (if any) at both sides. |

| Re: Linksys WRT150N glitch My WRT600N occasionally does something similar; however, it affects both hardwired and wireless connections on mine. By logging in to the router after losing WAN connectivity, what I've noticed is that somehow the WAN port of the router has been assigned an IP number that would appear to match the LAN side address range instead of the appropriate address range for the WAN. What make matters worse is that the router believes it has a good lease and continues right along obliviously. Forcing the switch to release and renew its DHCP lease has always immediately corrected the problem as this causes the switch to receive a correct WAN IP address. Haven't spent a lot of time worrying about this... and it hasen't done it very much lately. Seems like it might be tied to the cable network service being non-responsive or down when the router/switch goes to automatically renew a lease. When the cable company's DHCP server fails to respond, I bet the router takes an incorrect default IP address... and then hangs on to it as a good lease even once the WAN is back up. Seems like Linksys needs to modify the firmware such that it recognizes a failed DHCP attempt and makes it automatically attemp a release/renew once the cable network service is back on line. Just my observation... your mileage may vary! |
