| Linux USB wireless? I'd like to connect my old computer, with Linux, via a USB wireless link to my router -- to eliminate the wire running across the floor to the next room. Second choice would be an internal card for the Linux computer. Any suggestions?

| Re: Linux USB wireless? I cannot tell what you are looking for. If it is hardware, I suggest a PCI card. The USB devices are notoriously flaky--at least with Linux. If you are looking for a Linux suggestion, it is my opinion that openSUSE is somewhat less problematic in setting up wireless connections of all types and all encryption methods than others. Incidentally, version 10.2 outperformed 10.3 (the current release) in this regard. |

| Re: Linux USB wireless? I'm looking for hardware -- preferably USB, but otherwise internal. I have Ubuntu 7.10. I haven't found any hardware that says it includes Linux drivers. What manufacturers provide models with Linux drivers? Model numbers?

| Re: Linux USB wireless? I am not aware of any wireless cards that come with Linux drivers. Most often, the chipset manufacturer provides the drivers to the various distributions. For example, those cards that use Atheros chipsets use the Madwifi drivers (proprietary, but free). My recommendation is to visit Newegg online and check out the reviews of the wireless devices that interest you. If someone running Ubuntu recommends a particular one, get that one. |
