Looking for a 1st class forum with focus on networking and servers

Hi,
I am looking for a forum site where I can get answers to tons of questions I have relating to Networking and Servers. I am particularly interested in:

1. Windows Server 2008 - Enterprise (still in beta, I know) - 64 bit only
2. MS Exchange Server 2007 - Enterprise 64 bit only
3. MS virtualization solution planned in (1) - 64 bit only
4. Unified Communications (VoIP, IM, Video Conferencing) - 64 bit
5. SharePoint Server - 64 bit

But it's not only software related. I also need advise on the HP ProLiant DL580 G5 series rack servers and on HP blade servers.

Why don't I go ask the HP resellers? I am sick and tired of their incompetence. I haven't met ANYONE so far (during many many years) who knew what he/she was talking about. And that also applies to the resellers of above mentioned professional server software. I asked a Siemens guy in Germany, yes an IT specialist, to get us SharePoint server installed, so we could work in collaboration on documetns. He had never heard of SharePoint server software. That would be not a problem for me, but he did not make any effort to get to know more about it. This was not a guy of over 40 or 50, not being able to cope with the latest technology, no this was a 25-30 year young chap. I can tell you more of those hair pulling stories.

So, where can I find the real cream of the cream?

Ah, to be young again; knowing it all in blissful ignorance!

How can I edit my first posting in this thread? There is a typo in it, which I'd like to correct. Editing a posting was possible previously as far as I remember. Howto?

Unfortunately you can't anymore. During the takeover here there were a lot of disgruntled members that deleted all their posts so the new owner put the edit function on a timer that locks it after a few hours. I'm not sure exactly what the time limit is.

was that a revenge action to the old owner or to the new owner?

Its not really important, whenever there is a change, or transition, people can react in odd emotional ways. Maybe the transition could have been handled better by the outgoing and incoming owners, and maybe some members were unreasonable. Who knows? Who cares? its over now, everyone has moved on and its a nice place.

I dont know what your specific questions are, but why not try posting them here in the appropriate forums and see what responses you get?

Re: Looking for a 1st class forum with focus on networking and servers

you're right it's not important. I'm just amazed how many immature people are around.

I don't think the vast majority of the audience here won't be able to advise me. This is a PC enthusiast forum and only very few here are pretty knowledgable in the areas mentioned in my first posting. I am looking for a forum where most of the members are not just PC enthusiasts.

Try MS' TechNet forums for answers on the software side of things - there are a lot of MCSEs, etc., with good answers.

CompuGlobalHyperMegaNet - General [M]ayhem can probably answer your questions and your abx username and log on work there automatically since I own both forums.

genmay originally spun out of hardforums.com and all the hardcore techies hang out in the subforum I linked above.

Hey Switch!

Long time no see...

Try this site. It seems like exactly what you're seeking, and I've been a member for years.

Hope It Helps!

Re: Looking for a 1st class forum with focus on networking and servers

Spawn, thanks for that one. I registered as member just a few minutes ago.

Yeah, long time no see too. I haven't been around for a while. Just peep into this forum once in a while. I am swamped in work. No time anymore. And in addition, I think the whole IT industry has become boring. Nothing new, really.

I have abandoned PCs completely. Only notebooks now with Wireless LAN. All my family members (wife, kids) have a Notebook (Thinkpad of course). What a liberation. I can sit in the garden, on the balcony, work in the hotel room, hotel lobby. I don't need to sit anymore like a Zombie behind my office desk in the same office or room. I feel free again. A real revelation for me.

Hope you're doing fine.

Re: Looking for a 1st class forum with focus on networking and servers

I haven't been on the boards in what seems like years. I've been working on commercial accounts, and right now I'm trying to hook up with Dell on-site service and warranty repairs.

I too am doing much more wireless these days. I finally did a cert in sat installs, but wouldn't you know it. WB is not adding any new customers in central US.

Glad to hear you're doing well...
