| Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem Just got a Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem, and I like it. With the tweaks I did to WindowsXP and it being in place, I have 10MB of bandwidth and depeding on where I download from download speeds of over 1MB. If the cable company doesn't bother me with turning down the speed on their end, I've got it made.

| I have the same modem and I get about 5 mbs. What tweaks to XP did you do?

| If you're in the US, fooling with cable throughput carries massive fines. |

| FC is correct.. adjusting speeds through Firmware tweaks is theft of service. If they suspect anything, all they (cable company) have to do is access your modems logs! -wayne

| For your information FightingChance I didn't uncap the cable modem, my cable ISP doesn't care what tweaks I do to WindowsXP. I don't believe if uncapping a cable modem. I used TuneUp Utilities to get rid of QOS Bandwidth Reservation, increased the TCP RCV Window Size and changed the number of simultaneous connections that Internet Explorer can have open when connecting to a website. I'll never uncap a cable modem it doesn't pay, and I don't really want to lose my net connection. My ISP is Midcontinent Communications, up here in the upper Midwest and they really don't care how I tweak WindowsXP. They even so much as told me at a tech expo, they don't care how I tweak WindowsXP, as long as I don't uncap the cable modem and yes, one of their own employess told me this.

| Thanks for the reply. In no way was I asking if his modem was uncapped. Highly illegal (in the US anyways) and it's not worth fines and loss of service. However, I was asking what program he used to get the bandwidth up legally. I have used Tune Up Utilities before but found System Mechanic to work better for me anyways. Any others?

| Here's a list of connection tweaking programs on Snapfiles.com http://www.snapfiles.com/shareware/s...swsyspeed.html Within the next 4 weeks, I will be registering TuneUp Utilities 2004, as TuneUp Utilities has become an essential tool for me, including it's connection tweaking capabilities.

| Re: Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem Either I'm not following this thread well or there's a whole hell of alot of wannabe police on here! Good god the guy simply asked a question and was recited (redundantly by numerous pundits) the laws concerning uncapping a modem (and who makes those laws and for big profits? A better question is how they profiteers got the masses so dumb as to parrot the "laws"). And again, These same non-helpful commentors will preach the all-vital "law" about uncapping a cable modem but are the same people that faithfully will tithe their money to finance mass murder by paying taxes to make another bullet or bomb....If you aren't aware of the hundreds of thousands of lives we've just taken off the planet then maybe you should consider broadening your spectrum, maybe bother to see a bigger picture...a good place to start concerning the aforementioned topic might be watching a free video on question911.com (Then, after a little enlightenment, uncapping a cable modem won't seem so important to waste your breath on the matter anymore and we won't have to hear that negative stagnant non-helpful crap). peace. |
