No connection after router removed

Hi All,
I'm probably missing something simple here... During gaming (Counter Strike & Halo) I get intermittent disconnects which I am assuming are due to dropped packets. To try an isolate the problem I want to remove my wirelsss router (an older Netgear model) from between my hard wired PC and the Motorola modem from Comcast. When I do this, by plugging the cable from the modem directly to my PC (Taking the router out of the loop), I get no connection even after a re-boot. I'm running win2k, not XP or vista. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Take a look in your device manager and make sure your nic card is enabled.
If it is, you may have to contact your ISP if they only allow one mac address.

Re: No connection after router removed

You have to reset the modem by power off. Then connect the pc. The router and the pc each have a different mac address in order for the modem to get the new mac you have to power off the modem.

The proper procedure is p/off the modem p/off the router unplug the router move the pc cable ( after p/off the pc) and then p/on the modem wait till it has gone thru it's testing and the normal seq of light are active then p/on the pc and after the bootup you should be good to go.

To reattach the router same p/off seq as before attache the router then p/o on the modem p/on the router then the pc and everything should be abck to norm.

Re: No connection after router removed

How old are the modem and your NIC? The older ones did not automatically switch over for a direct connection. You may need a crossover cable.

Based on the fact that you have 2K you may be from that era.
