Question Optimizing XP Registry - good idea?

I have just discovered a Registry optimizing program 'TCPOptimizer', which claims to edit parameters in the registry which can make my connection faster. Is this a good idea? Could it actually improve my internet?

Ive seen so many of those in the years and i never heard of one that works. Anything that changes the registry can go very bad. I tried some in the passed and had no luck with one.

Having the latest firmware can help and people say by playing with the MTU can help with internet speed.

One of the things the TCP Optimizer did was change the MTU, is there a recommended value for it.

What is TCP Receive Window (RWIN) and should I follow the recommendations and change it's value?
