Recommendations for a PCIx 1X NIC?????

Am about to totally redo my home network to gigabit.....

And----low and behold----one of my computers has only a 10/100 NIC....(I thought they all had Gigabit.....)

And unfortunately this machine has the Nvidia TV Card I want to tap the potential of with Media Center built in to Vista.....

And it's in a small Qpack case on a Biostar Mobo (Tforce 6100-939) where the ONLY slot open is a PCIx 1x.....

But from what I read----PCIx network adapters are faster than PCI anyway----so I may be fine.....

Anybody have experience with these new PCIx Nics???

I'm used to old PCI cards.....

I've looked at three---which do you think is best----or can recommend??

Bytecc

D-Link

Intel

I really want to thank everyone for helping me and giving me advice for this project

The Regiment is Proud of you.....

John

If you're willing to spend the extra $20 I'd probably go for the Intel.

Though I'm fairly sure that unless you're going to haul massive amounts of data the cheapo one is probably fine too. Though I think Intel's drivers will be best among the three.

Intel PCIe without a doubt. They are worth every penny, and actually are not that expensive considering. With Vista or Linux they support all the latest TCP/IP enhancements, such as RSS (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...NDIS_RSS.mspx). Driver support is exemplar. An Intel PRO/1000 PT desktop adapter will go far.

Since this is the one PC where I might be actually trying to stream video from----and may get heavy use out of----Think I'll go with the Intel.

Thanks to all for helping!!!!

My top three choices for network card are Intel, Intel and Intel. Failing that 3Com is decent.
