AT&T U-Verse Digital Cable Service

I just got a booklet in the mail today about at&t cable and internet service. The prieces and the plans they offer are real good so i ordered it.

U200 Package with all 200 digital stations with 40 HD channels.
10mb down with 1.5mb up Internet
All fiber coming into the house then goes to standard rg6 cable.

Re: AT&T U-Verse Digital Cable Service

I think im going to go with the option to have all the boxes hooked up via cat6 then coax. Each box gets its own ip address so you can either watch cable on your tv or surf the web.

I cant wait to get the service installed to see how it compares with comast and brighthouse networks. In the city i live in it took 12years before another cable company could come in.

10Mb on fiber is pretty poor imo. Are you sure it's actually fiber? I was under the impression that initial rollouts would be Fiber To The Node with ADSL2+ or VDSL for 'last-mile.'

You're correct, U-Verse is not fiber to the home, it's fiber to the node, the last mile is copper. There are a few areas (new housing only) that actually have fiber to the home, unless he's in a brand new house it's FTTN.

SRTDodge, how many HDTV's do you have? When ATT began offering this service you could only have 1 HD stream at a time, now some markets allow 2 streams at once. Hopefully it will be 4 streams before long, using pair bonding and better compression.

Right now in michigan we have 1 HD and 3 SD streams. Soon it will be 2 HD and 2 SD. By the end of the year they said it will be 8 HD streams which will be real nice.

8, ok, should be since everything will be digital and HD eight months from now.

So how will you record TV programs and TV movies to watch later? And how will you record those special TV shows and events to keep and watch forever?

With the dvr box you can record upto 4 channels at a time. You also can log into your uverse accoun from anywhere and program your dvr box online.

After you record a program, can you take it with you to watch with friends who live several miles away?

Re: AT&T U-Verse Digital Cable Service

You could take the box with you or transfer the data from the box to a usb drive.

Right now, I can either record onto a VHS tape and take it with me including the closed captioning and the SAP. Or I can record directly onto the hard drive and either burn the file either onto a DVD or take the raw file with me on portable media. Thus I can play the program on a boat or camper or SUV DVD player or vacation house etc later. Of course this is analog signal source.

Are you sure you can transfer an unscrambled file via a USB port? Has AT&T activated a USB port? Last time I checked all companies had disabled all ports from their equipment (except for DISH network). And does the file contain the closed caption info?

That depends on the model of DVR box they set you up with. I have an older model DVR/HDTV tuner box, and it can only record up to two programs at a time.
