| I've read most of the posts in this new forum (which BTW are great). I finally got Bell South to agree to send me (Yeah Right, sell me) a ADSL Modem that will attach to a NIC instead of USB. I'm looking for a simple router/switch/firewall combination that will allow two computers to share that 1.4 Mbs ADSL connection hopefully without the need of 2 NICS in each machine...I'm looking for quality with adequate features at a reasonable price...Thanks in advance!!!

| milesc3, I posted a similar request last week. Based upon the replies I ordered an SMC Barricade 4 port router with print server. $99.95 from Outpost.com plus a $20 rebate. When it shows up abd I get it installed I'll let you know what I think. Regards, Mike

At home with MY ADSL I use a UMAX UGATE 3000 that has never, and I maen NEVER given me one ounce of trouble at all! This thing has ben bullet-proof for over a year now. It takes all of 3 minutes MAX to configure & life is good. It's a 4 port version. I can HIGHLY recommend the UMAX UGATE 3000 based on personal experience.

| I currently have a D-Link DI713 WAP/router/switch type. I am happy with it, but I must mention that the docs are badly lacking. Also, D-Link tech support is pretty bad. On a very good note, all D-Link products have a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. (They replaced my wireless pc card for free even though my wife broke it when she dropped her notebook) I have heard very good things about products from Linksys, although I have not tried any of them. If I may make a suggestion, look into a router with a built in print server. This way a host pc doesn't have to be turned on to print.
__________________ He Who Laughs Last Thinks Slowest If it's not broken, you didn't mess with it enough. If it is broken, chances are the warranty is expired. Specs (way out of date - I have a P4 now) http://www.mindspring.com/~kadron/pc.htm |

| Milesc3, I hooked the Barricade up today per the instruction manual (I know I'm not a real man and it's really OK!) and the software configuration through the browser was a snap. It actually took longer to make all of the connections and remove the old hub than to install and configure the software. The connection and response from the web is immediate now. Before there would be a couple of seconds delay prior to connection. The print server install was equally as easy, it did require Win2K to reboot once to add the printer port that the server uses. Conclusion This thing rocks! I should have known since it was recommended by tomp and afterhours. I sincerely hope this info helps you reach an informed and successful decision

| SMC also has a rebate of $20 good on purchases until 6-30-01. Mine was $99.95 + shipping from Outpost.com. Just to complicate matters.

| Linsys BEFSR41 Well guys I guess access speaks heavily and since the Linksys Router was the only one that my supplier had available today (yeah the new modem came today) I got it and I'm pleased so far. Took a bit more than five minutes to set up, but then again I made it more difficult than necessary, because I took the manly route and didn't read the instructions until the bitter end...ergo about 2 hours later I'm up and running...Thanks to all that helped me and a special thanks to you mcdonald43 for letting me know how your install turned out.
