802.11n isn't expected to become a standard until late 2006, and likely won't shake the business world until 2007. I'd stay away from buying new hardware yet.

re: "N" pls

v. silly to block hyperlinks - add ****://***

view .commsdesign.com/design_center/wireless/design_corner/showArticle.jhtml;sessionid=Q2RSXBFWLG1I0QSNDBOCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=175800604 for "N" features - add to this reduced power req'd in notebooks

as I input asus 240Mbps mimo g router here in hong kong & airgo chipset has tested higher perform than atheros (have not yet released super a/g mimo) so keep eye on airgo mimo until "n" launched "officially" nov

I still truley believe that 95% of users don't need faster wireless speeds. Unless your doing a network transfer, which in that case, get yourself a damn ethernet cable or crossover cable, your net connection probably isn't greater then 100 mbps (i believe the max right now in wireless speeds.) They've had PRE-N routers for a long time now, and if I know my stuff, they've had some problems with them. I just recently bought a 1 gbps d-link 108 mbps 802.11g gaming router, and it's amazing. I only use wireless on my notebooks which are limited by 802.11b, but it certainly is a great product. When my dad needs to transfer between two laptops, he usually goes through the router or I lend him my crossover cable. Considering the price of these cables, I don't see why running a wire once and a while should bug you. Hell, if your building a house, you should nowadays build ethernet into the wall anyway.

People may have uses that you may not have considered.
I personnaly don't like wireless but hey it's not for me.

It's true that 95% don't need faster speeds ... isn't that what they were saying about dialup back in the 90's ...

present wireless has serious security issues & shortcomings

higher speeds facilitate "realtime" multistage high level encryption and multiple confirmation handshakes within transaction dialog period

higher speed is v. much badly needed

I am refering to all forms of data "transactions", not merely financial...

Welcome to the ABX auxxum :wave2:

I think you will be able to post links after you have been here for awhile or after a certain number of posts.

I don't care about the speed of N, but I do care about the range. I live in a fairly spread out home where it is difficult to get good reception all over.

Re: Wireless N standard ?

It's been a while since this topic has been discussed. What I'm hearing is that ratification of 802.11n has been pushed back until early 2009. I'm in need of a wireless solution with that kind of range as my 802.11g is coming up a bit short and I can't wait another year or longer.

Since the current field of products is based on draft 2 of the standard is it likely that the standard will change enough to be a problem for those purchasing now?
