| That's completely limited by your Internet connection... Does your wireless connection status give you a speed reading? What kind of broadband do you have? That speed is decent for aDSL, not great but OK for cable.

| My take. So you walk around your house; bedroom, kitchen, toilet whatever and maybe your backyard and your wireless and if your lucky you will get a good internet signal and if your really lucky you get whatever speed your provider has it set to but then again maybe not. Basically you aint going nowhere far from your house with your pc. If it were me I would get the reliability of dsl network. Wireless whether it be wi-fi or satelite will most likely not be good for gaming because it hard to be 'real time' when your a signal propagating through the air. A good dsl provider like SBC, Version or Bellsouth would be what I do if you can get it where you live and then split the dsl via router from the dsl modem. SBC has dsl for only $30.00 bucks which is pretty good price for like a 1 year contract.

CAT 5E is preferable... it can get you better pings on longer cables and uses the 100Mb better...

| I have a netgear mr814 router and ma101 usb adapter and my pings in games are as good as wired. (30-80ms) The one thing that is important if you use xp for gaming though is to have a wireless card which does not rely on the wireless zero config service. The service about every 30-60 seconds will scan for new acess points causing you to lose your connection for 1-3 seconds which isn't fun in games. |

| Now THERE'S something I didn't realize! Good one packetloss! That implies that if you don't use Zero-config you get better gaming results... have you tried it out? "Enquiring minds want to know..." You have decent speed for aDSL. Yeah, I can see how fast my wireless connection is running by checking the status of the wireless NIC (right-click the wireless connection Icon and click Status). Now, are you actually having trouble gaming, or are you concerned about what you're seeing from your speed test results? Your speed tests are probably seeing the speed of your aDSL, since it's probably slower than the WiFi link. That's why I asked about your wireless link speed. N.H.B., he's got DSL already. What he's working on is the WLAN (wireless local area network) he connected to the DSL modem via a wireless router.

| Actually I didn't notice any speed differences between using the wzc service and the utility from netgear. The only problem I could find with it was the fact that it scanned which no gamer would want, however once the wireless connection is made you can stop the service and the connection will continue to work w/out scans |

| Thanks, packet... if I ever get caught up around here I'll give it a try, and it goes in my notes for sure!
