GeForce 9800 GX2 Exclusive Pics & Specs

the card sports a pair of G92-based GPUs with 128 SPs each on two separate PCBs. It also appears to have a total of 1GB of memory on-board and will be the new "flagship" card from NVIDIA taking the highest priced spot from the 8800 Ultra card

The HardOCP page also says that "Quad SLI" will be supported once again and that the card should be seen in late February or early March...

Re: GeForce 9800 GX2 Exclusive Pics & Specs

Card looks like monster, but it's highly doubtful that I will get one, as I'm extremely happy with my Intel SLI rig, which has as you can see in my specs two 640MB GeForce 8800GTS cards in it, even though just one of these cards would eliminate the need for 2 videocards.

Geez. Well, wouldn't getting two 8800GTS 512s be the same thing? O_o

Nope, each individual card on a GX2 is slower than a normal single PCB card in order to cut down on power consumption and heat. eVGA sent me a 7950GX2 after my 7950GT died. One of the cards on the GX2 was DOA and, consequently, its performance suffered. The card would perform worse than a GT in graphically intensive applications.

Hey bro,

You have a great setup. I have a single 8800GTS and it runs games very smooth without any problems.

Nvidia Readies Dual-Chip, Single-Chip High-Performance Graphics Cards

The lesser expensive solution – Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX – is projected to be released in late February or early March and is claimed to be based on one GPU. The new model 9800 GTX will replace existing GeForce 8800 GTX, thus, should offer performance on par with GeForce 8800 Ultra and support 3-way SLI configuration. In addition, there will be a the least expensive version of GeForce 9-series called GeForce 9800 GT and due in March or April...

but if performance is the same as an 8800 Ultra then it's not worth it

Re: GeForce 9800 GX2 Exclusive Pics & Specs

More info is needed to figure out if these cards are worth waiting for - and nVidia doesn't really want us to know, since we might stop buying the current cards

You got that right. There is one game sucks on my cards, and that is Oblivion. Sheesh, even with dual videocards and a dual core cpu, and 4GB's of ram that game should run better than what it does.

My Intel P35 chipset wouldn't agree with that
