Intel Fesses up to G45 Performance Issues

Intel launched its G45 chipset featuring its latest integrated graphics only a few weeks ago. So far, the response to the chipset and motherboards using the chipset has been a mixed bag by Intel's own admission.

Aaron Brezenski wrote a blog entry this week on the Intel Software Network that was titled, "Welcome to G45! Better (but still imperfect…)." In the blog, Brezenski wrote that Intel's competition -- AMD -- put together a demo booth stating that HP laptops using Intel's G45 did not accelerate Blu-ray playback. AMD maintains that its integrated graphics were able to playback Blu-ray without issue.

It is amazing how AMD tries to find something that is slightly better than Intel. Too bad that is about the only thing that AMD could find. LOL.

Can G45 beat current AMD 780G chipset for onboard video performance???

I thought even G45 couldn't beat it.....but I could be wrong.....

Incidentally 780G and a low cost 9850 Black Quad CPU is actually a pretty darn good platform----for VERY cheap----I have one----and while I'm normally an Intel guy.....

I've been impressed.....

And the AMD/ATI 4800 series of Graphics cards is nothing short of EXCELLENT at a tremendously reasonable price......

I'm rooting hard for AMD----competition is important for us consumers.....

Just joking john, that line is a direct quote from AMD fanboys in 2006, just insert 'Intel' inplace of AMD.

Re: Intel Fesses up to G45 Performance Issues

I know you were kidding----no problem....

Funny how life seems to run in cycles...

Or circles.....

The mighty fall----then rise----then fall again.....

AMD was on top of the world for two years----then complacency and Intel's HUGE R & D budget broght them back down to earth....

If they survive----the move to acquire ATI will go down as brilliant with Nvidia in deep trouble.....

If they don't----Hector will go down in infamy......

Intel will always be Intel......but with the future being combined chipsets.....

The ATI thing may just turn out for AMD----again----if they survive....

On a side note----you are going to like Vista Ultimate 64 on that new hardware you are getting-----it will be sweet----and FAST......

I like lots of competition between vendors simply because it's the only way that we, the consumer, win.

AMD is still, at this moment, keeping Intel's prices down (while AMD is not faster than Intel currently, they are not far enough behind to where people would throw out the price/performance consideration...so Intel's prices have come down as well). I see the same thing happening with ATi and Nvidia. ATi's price/performance ratio has forced nvidia to drop their prices tremendously. They're in a world of trouble for other reasons, too, but that is something aside completely.

I agree, the more competition the better for the consumer. As an example, two airlines serving Hawaii went out of business this year, almost immediately the remaining airlines all raised prices from $350.00RT to $750.00 RT. Now I am aware that fuel costs have risen sharply but to raise ticket prices greater than 100% has more to do with competition than fuel costs. Routes with more competition from these same airlines were not even raised.
