| Microsoft to Offer Office, Security Suite Subscription For $70 a Year OpenDNS hopes to lure bargain hunters with new subscription model, perhaps hints at changing business plan There have been some in the software industry who have advocated a subscription model for their programs. They suggest that rental programs could save both the consumer and the software companies. Microsoft seemed to validate those advocates as it announced that it will begin distributing rental copies of its popular Office productivity suite. The new deal will bring copies of the software to over 700 Circuit City stores across the country. The latest version of the Office suite will be bundled with Microsoft's Live OneCare computer security software and will work for $70 per year. For $70 a year----I get Office and OneCare.....!!??!! Maybe this might be something that a business who subs out projects for a year might be interested in.... Or----I guess you are banking on using something different after a year...but Office??? No one pays that extraordinary retail buy fee for Office anyway----in all my years----I have not met someone who paid more than $300 for any version of Office.... People have deals with education, business or just use Word that comes with their machine.... I must be missing something here....

| Re: Microsoft to Offer Office, Security Suite Subscription For $70 a Year Well, Microsoft may be planning to become an insurance company. If they can measure and control the air you breathe in, then one can imagine what solution they will have. So much for the hype that one will use accumulated wealth for philanthropy, just wonder where the wealth is coming from.
