Nehalem launch pulled forward to Sept?

DigiTimes is reporting that Intel has decided to launch their next-generation Nehalem CPU in September, with actual product availability slated for October. If true, this would put Nehalem 1-2 months ahead of schedule.

DigiTimes asserts that the move wouldn't affect Intel's current Core 2 lineup, as Nehalem uses an entirely different socket and chipset, but this statement conflicts with their own article from just last week that stated Nehalem pricing would start at $284, which would certainly put pricing pressure on their existing CPU lineup if true. Nehalem is expected to launch at speeds ranging from 2.66GHz to 3.2GHz...

Intel brings forward Nehalem launch

Intel does seem to be running on all cylinders right now...early launches, top performing products, saturating the entire market from low end to high end...looks like they can do no wrong...AMD better hope that Intel makes a misstep or 2 soon as that might be their only real hope

Definitely looking forward to this, I can actually build a new machine sooner than I planned.

Re: Nehalem launch pulled forward to Sept?

Intel is producing a lot lately (not just CPU's).

Sad that Intel will kill off Penryn so early, Penryn is very proven and the R0/E0 steppings will be even more power efficient. I guess Intel is rolling in the money and can kill off such a wonderful chip early.

The Nehalem performance is nice but buying 3 sticks of memory and using a 130W processor does not appeal to me ATM.

For more info on Nehalem visit Nehalemnews.com

I'm confused now.. i was thinking to upgrade on next month or maybe September because both Q6600 and E8200 are so cheap now! but now i see Nehalem so close! Even the slower 2.66ghz has a TDP of 130W..?

Exactly the way I want it. That way, I don't have to wait until 01/09 to upgrade. I just hope this is all true. Woo hoo!!!

Re: Nehalem launch pulled forward to Sept?

Waiting on the next revision of nehalem is probably not a bad idea.
A lot has changed in intel's setup so let someone else find mistakes.
Although the price will probably keep you away anyway.

Re: Nehalem launch pulled forward to Sept?

I will be getting a Q9650 as soon as it comes out. $550 is plenty to spend on a processor but it will be worth it. No problems to worry about and it will run cool.

I wish the Intel DP45SG would hurry up and come out or else I'll be looking at the X58 reviews next month.

There is a story on Digitimes that talks about Intel's upcoming desktop processor plans including the prices and plans for the newly-branded Core i7 Nehalem CPUs:

"In additional news, Intel is planning to launch three Core i7 CPUs (Nehalem): a 3.2GHz extreme-level, a 2.93GHz performance-level and 2.66GHz mainstream-level, which will be priced at US$999, US$562 and US$284 in thousand-unit tray quantities in September or October"

interesting that the top speed Nehalem will run at the same clock speed as today's top Core 2 Quad part- 3.2 GHz

Intel desktop CPU plans updated
