NVIDIA To Replace Dated GeForce 6/7/8 WHQL Drivers Next Week

A reader recently contacted us asking about 3DMarkVantage and NVIDIA WHQL drivers for his GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB. He told us that he wanted to run 3DMarkVantage with WHQL drivers, because he did not want to run teh etst with beta drivers and described NVIDIA’s latest WHQL drivers as "old dinos".
We did some research and found that the most recent WHQL drivers for the GeForce 6/7/8 series of cards in fact are a bit dated and were released back on December 19 and 20 of last year 2007. As of today, these are the current drivers offered by NVIDIA:

I'll believe this when I see it actually happen.

Nvidia released another beta set today--175.16

times like this that I miss ATI and their monthly non beta driver releases...5 months between official driver releases is ridiculous!!

Still using 93.71 found these are best for 7 series.

I switched back to an Intel chipset motherboard with the 975XBX2 in March, and last month, back to ATI when I purchased a Radeon 3870X2 videocard. Nvidia's driver mess, and no decent non beta drivers since December of 2007, was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

Re: NVIDIA To Replace Dated GeForce 6/7/8 WHQL Drivers Next Week

I admit the drivers are dated but I also have had no problems whatsoever with the current drivers. Still running the original 8800 GTS and it has been a great card. Next card will be ATI though. I want a Sapphire Toxic version of the R770 GPU.

Hi Sandog - yep the 8800GTS is serving us well. Have not had any driver issues to speak of. Hope the updated drivers don't botch things up. What's your next "paper build"? I am thinking about buying some new hardware with the rebate check.

We didn't qualify. We did, though, get to pay the government a vast sum in taxes.

Re: NVIDIA To Replace Dated GeForce 6/7/8 WHQL Drivers Next Week

Hey JT,

I am very slowly upgrading. I plan on keeping what I get next till it breaks if you can believe that. So far I have a great new all in one printer and a new 24" monitor plus I have the new case and power supply. Those parts are done. My new video card will be a single ATI R770 which I plan on getting next. The rest I'm not sure. My intentions are to move on to quad core and do it with minimal power requirements. I already have the DDR3 I want to get but won't bother until I get the mobo/CPU. I am leaning toward the Intel P45 chipset since it uses less power and may even go with an Asus board so I can OC and play with a cheap Penryn.

"I plan on keeping what I get next till it breaks if you can believe that". Nope - I don't believe it. LOL

I have it in my head to get a Q6600 or Q6700. I really don't feel like cracking the case open just for a CPU. The 8800GTS is still performing exceptionally well. ASUS makes great boards and that certainly is an option for me too after a relatively moderate hardware upgrade of only a CPU.
