I'm pretty happy with the standing state of video cards right now - with rebates you can get a 8800GT or 9600GT for a real decent price. And without introducing new lines, game development may center around this level of power for a bit and finally start to take advantage of some DirectX10 stuff.

I still wish SLI/Crossfire would die off though, I just think that's a poor direction to go into.

Hmm sounds good to me.I can retire this old 7900 card.I hope DangerDen can have a water block out by Q3 July.I better start working some over time now.

Any chance that the driver problem with NVIDIA is really a hardware problem? And that is why they are coming out with a new card so soon?

So soon? Soon after what? The 8800GTX series has been around since fall of 2006. The 9900 series cards are the true successors to the 8800GTX/Ultra cards. Frankly, I'm surprised that my card stayed at or near the top of the pyramid as long as it has.

As far as driver problems, read back in this thread. The time in question isn't specified other than in "2007". We don't know exactly what time frame has been quoted but it's got a good chance of being the first half of the year when everyone was trying to get workable Vista drivers out.

So, to answer your question I'd say there's nothing wrong with the hardware.

On thing more, if memory serves the 7900GX2 didn't have a very long lifespan either. Just a couple of months, I think.
Then the 8800GTX happened.

That's why I'd caution anyone on buying one of these new GX2's. It won't be long before the real 8800 replacement arrives.

Ah, I see.
No, the 9800 series is built on an existing chip, the G92. Nothing terribly new there.
The specs for the 9900 series cards are unknown at this time.
