that's good to know...I'm very happy with my new WD RE2 500 GB WD5001ABYS drive so I'll stick with it for the forseeable future...I hope they start making the VelociRaptor's in 500+ GB capacity in the near future...then it would get very tempting

seems like WD has estanlished itself as the only option when it comes to storage now...Seagate seems to have faded in the background

No for two reasons: one, they output way too much energy to be kept even remotely close to cool if mounted inside a laptop and, two, these drives have almost double the thickness of a standard laptop drive at 15mm whereas a laptop drive is 9mm thick. These drives' thickness match that of Seagate's Savvio lineup which are also 2.5" drives. The enterprise version of these drives will be shipped without the IcePAK to become the Savvio's competitor.

I agree. Might be tempted to return to this single Raptor in 6-12mos. I have used all three versions of Raptors in RAID at one point. My last set of 150GB's were too noisy in my Lian Li case.

Re: Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB WD3000GLFS!

How come only WD is making 10,000rpm drives??
You'd think after 5yrs with the raptor series, somebody somewhere would hop on the 10krpm bandwagon too!

Wheres the competition?!?!

Re: Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB WD3000GLFS!

I'm just guessing that they are motivated to produce drives with higher areal densities and larger capacities. They are happy with 80% of the performance and 3X the capacity.

Fortunately WD thinks differently :-)

Any idea when they should be hitting the shelves?
