Hmm I have a virgin copy of XP ala no service packs.. So i made a SP2 slipstreamed... that one works fine with the "integrate" cmd.. or even the switches some others use. But using it on SP3, it unpacks and integrates fine, using either "integrate" or the switches, and burns fine.. but like I said, stops at the same file.

I'm not much of a fan of nLite... just because some red flags went off in my head when reading up on it..

**EDIT**
BTW this is on a Dell Latitude C840.. lil trooper of a PC

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 available (for real this time)

I just wanted to post a couple informatory links regarding installing SP3 and what version of IE you may be using.

Basically, if you are using either IE7 or IE8 Beta 1 and upgrade to SP3 you will lose the ability to uninstall IE7 or IE8 Beta 1. Actually, if you are using IE8 Beta 1 Windows Update won't show SP3 availability for the system in an attempt to diminish the possibility of the user being stuck with IE8 Beta 1. So it is being recommended that one uninstalls IE7/IE8 Beta 1 first (which reverts the browser back to IE6) before installing SP3.

Not quite true, I reinstalled WindowsXP over the weekend, then installed Service Pack 3, and shortly afterwards, installed IE7 and I can still remove it. Those website, don't know what they are talking about nor do the people on them.

You probably didn't see this sentence in the linked articles:
If you install IE7 after you install XPSP3, then you will be able to uninstall IE7 at any point and be reverted to the newer IE6 version that ships in XPSP3. The restriction on uninstalling only applies to when you install a Windows Service Pack release on top of a standalone IE release.
What you found and what is stated in the articles are consistent.

Is there a reason you have to be a dork and bug me, the fact is, is that he should have noted that IE7 can be uninstalled in his post, instead of saying that it couldn't and dumping two links in his post. So shut up, unlike most people I take the time to find things out, instead of what he did.

End of discussion.

Kindly shut up, if these people would offer more proof than what they would, there wouldn't be a problem.

In this day and age, there has to be more proof than what people are saying. If you don't like it, take it to a mod. End of discussion, and you are now on my block list.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 available (for real this time)

Yes, you can install IE7 after reinstalling Windows XP and then SP3 and still retain the ability to uninstall IE7, since you wouldn't have been using IE7 before you installed SP3.

My intention was not to alert people that it could be uninstalled, but to the potential that it couldn't be uninstalled. I took the time to find it out, then I took the time to post my findings here in this thread.

You took your time to post an erroneous perspective, and then ridiculed me, the other members, and the two sites I linked to.

While I think you are correct that all too many forum posts provide inadequate supporting rationale, in this particular case please note that the linked information comes directly from a blog post by Microsoft's Deployment Program Manager for IE8.

My thanks to BJBGraphics for taking the time to call this potentially important issue to everyone's attention.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 available (for real this time)

I downloaded the full 316MB SP3 file yesterday. I didn't now which is better to install that 316MB file or the 66.9MB file through windows update. Last night I went to windows update and instead of the 66.9MB file to download, the only item it wanted me to download was WGA at 1.1MB. Today when I turned on my pc, I got the windows update icon on the taskbar and it was to download SP3 (66.9MB-316MB) and I clicked on download. It just sat there and didn't do anything. I then clicked on download again and the window disappeared (not on desktop or the taskbar). I then checked the Task Manager and no windows update download process running.

What does SP3 do with IE? I'm currently running IE6 (I don't like IE7). When I install SP3, does it leave IE6 or does it intsall IE7?
