Windows XP Service Pack 3 Now Available

SP3 is finally available for download.

Last week, DailyTech reported that Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP was released to manufacturing (RTM). At the time, Microsoft's Chris Keroack noted that consumers should expect to get their hands on the update April 29.
“We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center,” said Keroack last Monday. “Online documentation for Windows XP SP3, such as Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and the Microsoft TechNet Windows XP TechCenter, will be updated then. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.”

This is a joke, if Service Pack 3 was truly available it would be available for download from the following page.

Download details: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Overview

I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quick, ATINUT. Give it a few more hours since it's only 7:25 AM PST right now. I'm sure MS will have it up sometime today.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Now Available

I'll believe it's out when I see the download link on Microsoft's website, not on some website like DailyTech.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Now Available

If it's anything like Vista sp1 it took like the next day to show up on the main page. But if you searched through the site for like 3 hours you could find it. lol

Yes and if you need to have SP2 installed on the disk as well. I know SP1 was not needed with SP2 so I am guessing the same here. Is it available from auto update yet?

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Now Available

FYI- One of the touted features of SP3 is supposed to be keyless installs, ie. like Vista you can opt to not put a key during setup and it will be left in a "eval" mode giving you 30 days to activate.

This will *not* work if you slipstream SP3 into your existing XP installation disc. It seems only yet-to-be-released "official" XP SP3 install discs from MS will have this.

Yamawho there was another thread started by srtdodge05 that addressed the install issues. He and I and a few others have already installed no problems.
