Folder Synchronization Tools

I have a 1TB external hard drive connected by USB to my workstation. As I have over 100GB of photo's on my desktop, I would hate to lose them. I'm looking for a tool that will monitor a directory tree on my working drives, and automatically synchronize changes with the external drive. I never use the external drive for work, just as a hot backup.

I'm looking for something that is transparent, I don't want to have to babysit it. I have no preference between live/scheduled. OS is 64bit Vista Ultimate, and I'm looking for free/dirt cheap, and even things I can do within Vista itself.

TIA!

I ended up using SyncToy, as well as RoboCopy to meet my needs. Thanks for the suggestion.
