Help: Quake3 engined games load reallly slow

The title says it all. All of my quake3 based games take forever to load. JK2, Quake3, and SOF2. Anybody have any ideas what could be causing this? TIA

Well, it would help if you posted your system specs... Without those, it's hard to tell.

Do you have a Radeon based videocard, by chance? Loading compressed textures takes a long time with that card. Be sure to get the latest drivers from ATi (6071 is the most recent). There are two solutions: either turn off the use of compressed textures in the game, or a apply a registry tweak to speed up loading of compressed textures.

Instructions for doing the latter depend on what OS you have...
