Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

Well, I made the jumpt to MS Office 2007 Ultimate. I first deinstalled Office 2003. I was surprised that all settings, configurations and Outlook pst files and my email addresses were taken over without a problem. No importing of pst files, no newly setting up of email addresses.

Everything works fine. Now I have to find out what that Groove 2007 and InfoPath 2007 is all about.

Have to get used to the ribbons in Excel and Word.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

What I like is that an RSS reader is embedded in Outlook 2007. So, I can finally retire my FeedDemon RSS reader. I also like it that Outlook now shows my incoming emails, RSS feeds, Todo's, Appointments. Pretty neat.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

Of anything - it would be Outlook that would make me upgrade. I need a quicker way to find data. Hope that is improved! Can it be installed on a Desktop and Laptop the same time per activation/lic. agreement?

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

I was told that my Full Version of Ultimate only could be installed on one Device (PC/Notebook). I didn't try to install it on another device though. As I stated before, I was told so.

However I bought a few months ago the (boxed=retail) Update version of Office 2007 Professional. This version installed on three notebooks without a problem! I gave it a try and bingo. I bought the update version because it's cheaper than the Full version. This made the purchase a bargain (relatively).

The price of the boxed Full Version of Ultimate is insane.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

Well, I also wanted to do a search in Outlook 2007 and it required to install Microsoft Desktop Search: Download details: Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for Windows XP (KB917013)

So, the query wasn't finished, because it had to index first everything on my harddrive. I'm sure it will do so tomorrow. I guess that will take VERY long because I have tons of data (including emails with attachments).

Once that's done, I assume and hope it will go fast.

I tried Office 2007 when it was a beta. I hated it! Didn't like the new look at all.

I like it, although Excel 07 was a PITA to get used to. As an advanced Excel user, it took me a while to find everything in the new version.

I don't like the fact that if you get the student version it doen's come with outlook. I guess you can buy the stand alone version of outlook. Oh well...such is life

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

After the search engine had indexed all my files, the search process is lightning fast.

Apropos, Microsoft Desktop Search is not required to be installed when the OS is Vista. I assume this is installed in Vista by default. So, any OS other than XP, the search command in Outlook 2007 informs you should install Microsoft Desktop Search first.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

I agree, I don't understand why M$ didn't include Outlook in the Home and Student versions. I mean, email is such a commodity like Word and Excel. Buying the boxed versions of Outlook 2007 separately is just a rip-off.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

Thanks for the info "switch abx". I will see if there is some sort of military appreciation version available at the base when I go there next time. I am confident I can install it on a laptop and desktop.

Re: Office 2007 Ultimate - I just installed it

I hate the new look. I'm not sure why they couldn't just use the native UI and offer this blue crap as a skin. The entire suite is also fairly bloated; there's no reason opening my email client should take 3 seconds.

That said, the ribbon and other new features are pretty useful.
