Cool Online Meeting & Presentation

Online Meeting & Presentation

Hi.
How can I hold an online meeting/presentation with some 10 to 50 people?

Each person can talk with each other by text or audio.
One can publish its screen online (while doing its presentation), so other members can watch at the same screen at their own computer.
They can listen to what the presenter says.

Do you know if there is/are any (combination of) software which can achieve this?
If it can't be done by freeware, then tell me any shareware.

Thanks a lot.

But it seems I need to pay for product fee + service fee.
That's a whole lot of money. I expect to pay a one-off fee only.

No good cheaper/free altneratives?!

As to communications, I think we can make use of instant messenger.
So the remaining problem is "the presentation part".
Is there any application which can share/publish my screen to others?

at work we use Microsoft Office Live Meeting for the presentation and chat/questions, then use a telephone conference for the audio.

NetMeeting....... use that before internally (network) and also with a public ip address can be done too. I don't know about the audio part (still think is possible) and is free. just an idea.

Isn't it true it needs to pay for both product + service fee?
Not a good option if it's so.

Either pay a one-off product fee, or host the online presentation with the help of freeware by myself.
I don't wish to keep paying for the online meeting/presentation.

As we can online chat for free, I think there's must be some better and cheaper alternative.

I'm considering this option too.
As to audio chat or room chat, I think a good instant messenger could make up for that.

But do you know what's the system/hardware requirement to run an online presentation?
CPU? RAM? Bandwidth?
In order to deliver the presentation fluently. at least how much is enough(rule of thumb)?

-----------

I have miserably removed Netmeeting previosuly, and couldn't get it back.

Does anyone know how I can reinstall Netmeeting (Win XP)?
I would like to give it a try first since it's the free alternative.

There's no exe available to download (only older versions) in MS website.

I have selected to show hidden files & system files.
I found msnetmtg.inf and right clicked --> install.
During the install, it prompted me for cd32.exe!
I couldn't find any folder named ...\i386 or ...\ServicePackFiles\i386 (which should contain that cd32.exe)
I searched for cd32.exe in my drive in vain.
I searched for cd32.exe in my Win XP Installation CD in vain.

I tried to insert the CD, select "Install Windows Components".
I couldn't find a component called Netmeeting.
That's too bad.

What's up?
It seems to be very strange.

How could I reinstall the Netmeeting?

NetMeeting - Run, Remove and Reinstall Windows XP

Run: Start/Run/conf.exe

Remove: Start/Run/RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINDOWS\inf\msnetmtg.inf,NetMtg.Remove

Reinstall: To reinstall, open the Windows\Inf folder (this is a hidden folder, so you may need to adjust your Folder Options to show hidden files and folders. Or you can click Start, Run and enter %systemroot%\Inf). Locate the msnetmtg.inf file in the Inf folder. Right click and select Install. Have your XP CD handy.
Tip: Clear Netmeeting Call History - Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Conferencing\UI\CallMRU. Open your registry and delete the key mentioned. Restart Netmeeting for the change to take effect.

i think that will fix it,

edit:

From MS site,

System Requirements
The following are the minimum system requirements to install and run Microsoft NetMeeting.

* 90 megahertz (MHz) Pentium processor
* 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me
* 24 megabytes (MB) of RAM for Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 (Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later is required to enable sharing programs on Windows NT.)
* Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 or later
* 28,800 bps or faster modem, integrated services digital network (ISDN), or local area network (LAN) connection (a fast Internet connection works best).
* 4 MB of free hard disk space (an additional 10 MB is needed during installation only to accommodate the initial setup files).
* Sound card with microphone and speakers (required for audio support).

To use the data, audio, and video features of NetMeeting, your computer must meet the following hardware requirements:

* For Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, a Pentium 90 processor with 16 MB of RAM (a Pentium 133 processor or better with at least 16 MB of RAM is recommended).
* For Windows NT, a Pentium 90 processor with 24 MB of RAM (a Pentium 133 processor or better with at least 32 MB of RAM is recommended).
* 4 MB of free hard disk space (an additional 10 MB is needed during installation only to accommodate the initial setup files).
* 56,000 bps or faster modem, ISDN, or LAN connection.

It seems to be low level of hardware requirement.
If netmeeting is proved to be successful, I start to wonder why people are paying hecks of money to company for their product and service fees.

We can just do it for free. Why pay?

We use GotoMeeting found here:
https://www.gotomeeting.com/

It's not free, I think we pay somewhere around 50 bucks a month. It works well though and the cost is minimal when compared to long distance calls and such. We tried netmeeting and to be frank, it sucked. For such a low cost, this works perfectly for what we need. Take a look, they have a free trial too.

What makes you feel Netmeeting sucks?
I would like to hear about its shortcomings.

As to long distance calls, why not use instant messengers?
They have audio chats too.

My bad, I did not read carefully. I see you did try the same thing. Well, if you still want, try with xplite. About cd32.exe I read something about Netscape ??

Darn!!!!!! Netmeeting is gone forever!!!!

I was acting so desperately, darning the Win CD. Where's the deadly Netmeeting?!
Sooner or later, I'll break it into half.

Feeling brainless, I searched for "cb32" again in Win CD, hoping miracles to occur.

But... it did occur.

I found a file named cb32.ex_!
Oh no, this little program has the nice "e" eaten.
How foxy Bill Gates is!
He's playing jokes on me. Naughty boy!

Netmeeting is back.
Good & happy!

OK! Now I'm going to try and see how great it works!

You couldn't simply point it to the Win CD (the CD drive).
It won't work.
You need to tell it the exact location of that file.

Previously I couldn't find the application because I searched for cb32.exe which returned no result. That's why I don't know where I should point to when the computer prompted me for cb32.exe

But when I just search for cb32, the file cb32.ex_ popped up.
So when the computer prompted me for cb32.exe this time, I pointed to that file and it worked.
