Xj,

Here is what I use. Give it a try. Just type "shutdown -h" and it will hibernate your machine.

Thanks darkwish! Where did you get this??? Nothing against you, but I don't want a virus or trojan. Also, is this freeware????

I tried it when you first posted it, but wasn't too impressed. I guess it was not as handy as I thought it would be. Doesn't (easily) let you run any plain DOS commands. It didn't come with uninstaller either.

I got it off of a website. I've been using it for a while now, so I don't remember. And yes it's free.

P.S. Found the website. http://www.budja.com/shutdown/

I've also been using Shutdown for quite awhile. I have it linked to MBM5, so if my system overheats, it will shutdown by itself.

Its good for a few programs that are either not on my Start/Programs menu or are buried deep. But it requires a habit of using it to make it convenient.

Yes, I think it is good if you get in the habit of using it. It wasn't very helpful for me and then just annoyed me a bit when it wasn't in the uninstall menu.

It's not a bad program though...just didn't end up being as convenient as I hoped it would be.

Thumbs up SpamProofer

Check this one out ....

http://www.scriptek.com/i/p/detail/id/spamproofer

I build websites, and a friend just told me about making sure all e-mail links on any page were encrypted so 'e-mail trawler' progs didn't pick them up and send them on to spam co's etc ....

Freeware. Easy to use. Encrypts e-mail but web-user still sees normal text.

So I've tried it. Looks good. But I hadn't heard of this til now, so is there a genuine reason for using it? Or is my friend overly-protective??

Your thoughts?

Another RAR program worthy of investigation is TUGZip2. It handles multiple formats, and best of all it is free. You can find heir homepage here: http://www.tugzip.com/

The RAR Archiver
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
License for use and distribution
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The RAR archiver is distributed as try before you buy. This means:

1. All copyrights to RAR are exclusively owned by the author
- Eugene Roshal.

2. Anyone may use this software during a test period of 40
days. Following this test period of 40 days or less,
if you wish to continue to use RAR, you must register.

3. There are 4 basic types of licenses issued for RAR, these are:

a. A single computer usage license. The user purchases one license
to use the RAR archiver on one computer.

b. A multiple usage license. The user purchases a number of usage
licenses for use, by the purchaser, the purchaser's employees or
accredited agents, on the same number of computers.

The number of licenses in network environment must not be less
than the maximum possible amount of simultaneous users.

c. A SITE usage license. The user purchases a single usage license,
authorising the use of RAR, by the purchaser, the purchaser's
employees or accredited agents, on an unlimited number of computers
at the same physical site location. This site location would
normally be defined as a single building, but could be considered
to be a number of buildings within the same, general, geographical
location, such as an industrial estate or small town.

d. A CORPORATE, NATIONAL or INTERNATIONAL usage license. The user
purchases a single usage license, authorising the use of RAR, by
the purchaser, the purchaser's employees or accredited agents, on
an unlimited number of computers, regardless of location, but
owned or under the control of the purchaser.

Once registered, the user is granted a non-exclusive license to use
RAR on as many computers as defined by the licensing terms above
according to the number of licenses purchased, for any legal purpose.
The registered RAR software may not be rented or leased, but may be
permanently transferred, in it's entirety, if the person receiving it
agrees to the terms of this license. If the software is an update,
the transfer must include the update and all previous versions.
If its not purchase through...
http://www.win-rar.com/index.php?lang=eng or any of its Global sites then perhaps its warez crap!!
