Hi all. Ok... I haven't seen this one mentioned, but to me it is so good I feel like everyone already knows about it and when they see this post they will think "R U kidding"

It is called Webferret located at www.ferretsoft.com

I put an icon in my task bar and its fast to pull up at any time. Way better than using Google as it incorporates many search engines and is more compact.

I'd love to know if in fact this is something everyone already uses cause I couldn't do without it. Shoot, I even purchased the retail version!

thanks,
joe

FileCheckMD5

Quote:
I needed a Windows utility that would let me specify a folder to scan recursively, save MD5 checksums, and then be able to test those same checksums against those files at a future date. The idea is to have this on the root folder of a CD-ROM so that the disc can be tested for defects, giving a definitive answer to the "is it just my computer" question when someone runs into a problem with their CD
You can 'Make Check File' or 'Check File' this a very small 281kb three tab program that runs from the folder, no install and its free

I used to use Webferret a few years back (bought the retail version too), but to be honest I didn't find it better than google once I started using Google. However, I did recently get an email that it was revamped and a new version is out, so I was planning to give it a try.

Yesterday I tried our WebTemp, and found it really good.

"WebTemp reads measured values out of hardware monitoring tools such as Motherboard Monitor (MBM) and processes them. WebTemp displays this data and creates nice statistics which can be uploaded to any FTP server in order to remotely monitor you system. "Light" and banner displays are very popular to be used in hardware community forums as live avatars and signatures."

No, this would be fun, but I have no device to measure the flow.

The picture I posted is from their web site. (I tried to do a screen shot on my PC but I was astonished I had no such tool installed.)

Both these programs work great side by side (for those hard to back-up Audio CDs) and both are FREE

EAC is a new audio grabber for CD-ROM drives
Exact Audio Copy
Quote:
Features of EAC

* Usage of the Windows 95 and Windows NT ASPI Interface, so both SCSI and ATAPI CD-ROM drives are supported
* Hidden sector synchronization (jitter correction)
* Secure, fast and burst extraction methods selectable. Fast extraction should run at the same speed as other grabbers, but is probably not exact anymore. Burst mode just grabs the audio data without any synchronization.
* Read error and complete loss of sync detection and correction in secure modes, as far as possible
* Output of time positions of all non-exact corrections and listen to these positions
* Copy of ranges of music data, not only tracks
* Automatic Speed reduction on errors and fallback afterwards
* Normalization of extracted audio
* Usage of the Windows Audio Compression Manager (ACM Codecs) for direct compression e.g. to MP3 waves
* Support for the BladeEnc DLL that is usable like an ACM Codec for online MP3 compression
* Support of external MP3, VQF, RA and AAC encoders for automatic compression after extraction
* Batch compression and decompression of/to WAV files
* Compression offset support for exact compression/decompression
* Detection of pre-track gaps
* Detection of silence in pre-track gaps
* Automatic creation of CUE sheets for CDRWin, including all gaps, indicies, track attributes, UPC and ISRC
* CD player functionality and prelistening to selected ranges
* Automatic detection of drive features, whether a drive has an accurate stream and/or does caching
* Sample Offsets for drives with no accurate streams, including the option of filling up missing samples with silence
* Option for synchronizing tracks for non-accurate stream drives
* Filename editing with local and remote CDDB database and cdplayer.ini support and more features like ID3 tagging
* Browse and edit local database
* Certified Escient ® CDDB(TM) Compatible
* Local CDDB support
* Record and Loop Record functions for recording from LP, radio, etc.
* Automatic rename of MP3 files according to their ID3 tag
* Catalog extraction function
* Multisession (CD-Extra) support
* CD-Text support
* CD-Write support for some drives
* ID3 Tag editor with drag and drop possibility from track listing and database
* Glitch removal after extraction
* Small WAV editor with the following functionality: delete, trim, normalize, pad, glitch removal, pop detection, interpolation of ranges, noise reduction, fade in/out, undo (and more)
* Program is Cardware, so feel free to copy
CDex
Quote:
So.. what exactly does CDex do?
CDex is a tool to do all sorts of things audio related. Mainly focused on ripping and converting, things like turning your home Compact Disc collection into an mp3 collection on your hard drive become extremely easy. With built in support for many encoders you wont find any shortage of options for your media files. Below is a more in-depth explination of CDex features.

CDex Feature List:

* Easy to use interface
* Media File Player
* Create PLS and M3U playlist files
* Advanced jitter correction
* Support for many file formats/audio encoders (WAV, MP3, OGG, VQF, APE, etc)
* Support for ID3 V1 and V2 tags
* Support for normalization of audio files
* Support for transcoding of compressed audio files
* Support for CDDB
* Support for recording from the analog input line

Best of all CDexis entirely free! You will never have to pay to use the software or register in any way. Moreover, CDex is entirely opensource, as per the GPL Terms.

wayne, or anybody. I would like to boost the volume level of some of my mp3s, as some are just too quiet to be happy. Attenuation, or whatever its called. Maybe normalization. Because the source is at a different level, and it ain't coming through. Like someone moved the mic away.

Do you know of anything to do this?

Also, I have an ATI Radeon 7200 64MB AGP4x VIVO. When I owned an ATI 4MB mach 64 turbo it came with a display property option for virtual desktop. Does anyone know if it is possible to get this with newer (my) vid cards? I loved this, and can't believe it dissappeared from the features.

For those who don't know, you could have say six different programs opened maximized side by side, and use the virtual desktop (multiplication factor) to increase the "working" area, and use the mouse to switch up/down/L/R to scroll to any of the maximized apps, which you could put any way you wanted. Worked in any way you wanted. Similar to an AutoCAD floating zoom window. Anything anywhere everywhere anyime any size! Just move the mouse to switch aplications. Talk about arranging! No opening/ closing/ peaking!
