This is a file renaming tool. Highly recommended and it's freeware. Download from here:

Often unknown free Microsoft utilities

1. Outlook Add-in: Personal Folders Backup for Windows 95 up to XP and Server 2003. A MUST have if you're using Microsoft Outlook.
Search on Microsofts website for: pfbackup.exe

2. Windows XP Service Pack 2 Support Tools
Search on Microsofts website for:
WindowsXP-KB838079-SupportTools-ENU.exe
This package offers a range of utilities of which exctrlst.exe might be of your interest

3. The Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP provides a simple and effective way to defend shared computers from untrusted users and malicious software, safeguard system resources, and enhance and simplify the user experience.
Search on Microsofts website for: Shared_Computer_Toolkit_ENU.msi

Not from Microsoft, but very usefull if you want a fresh install of XP by slipstreaming XP with latest Service Pack: Autostreamer from Neowin
Google for: AutoStreamer 1.0.33

FileMap

Here is a program called FileMap You can set it up to scan your files every time you boot up or just click on the Icon and it scans them and it compares the number files from the previous scan to the number of files on the current scan to see if someone (a hacker) has added some thing or you will recognise that you have downloaded a program.

LINK

EDIT: Dont forget when the program first opens to put a check in the box "Boot alert on" so that it scans on boot up.

All the utilities on this site and are freeware. There is unfortunately ONE popup

Source codes are provided and the programs are very very small.

My favourite programs are EDXOR and DsCRYPT

EDXOR is an AMAZING editor. The only thing it doesn't do is cure cancer but everything else is supported including encryption and wicked editing power. It can be used to conceal files into other files etc.

DsCRYPT is a tiny encryption program. It has a LOT of features that i can't list all here but it supports key files and uses AES-256 as the algorithm.

Check 'em out.

EDIT: Forgot to mention he has a WICKED NFO viewer on his site for those errrrr times when you would need to view any .nfo files. Rename the executable to dizzy1.exe to make the screen black.

Thanks mameluke. I like and use TrueCrypt and AxCrypt for encryption at the moment (mostly the latter), both of which are open source and free. Going to take a look at how the ones you posted about compare.

Edit: I really like dsCrypt. Super small stand alone executable that has no file dependency. Options can be saved to a file and nothing goes into the registry. I especially like the unique anti key logger aspect of it, something most file encryption programs don't have. It also remembers the password you entered until you close it or change an option, which means you can just keep dragging files onto it until they are all encrypted (though true multi-file encryption would have been nicer). It also cleans up after itself so that no traces are left behind.

Also check out the keyfile option. It spits out random data when you F6 it. Then you encrypt that random data. To use the keyfile you need to have the password.

It's very secure and also the keyboard owns. You can press any key while hovering your mouse over the keypad to activate that character.

And you can modify the iterations as much as you like to get a bigger delay.

Like the other sentiments, I think it's really fantastic. Also it seems to be updated regularly too, although you wouldn't know it from the looking at their site.

Three more compact non-installing programs I've discovered recently that I really love are uTorrent, Rename Master, and Sizer.
