Re: 1700 Vostro with XP Hi, unfortunately I am unable to find any audio drivers that work with my Vostro, back to square one! I have tried downloading the ones that were for the 1500, but no luck, the PC says they are not the right ones. Dell do not seem to have the drivers for this model in XP format! Anyone know of any others I could try?

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP I'd try the ones for the inspiron with the intel chip and see if it'll take.

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP Try going into the device manager and updating the driver from there and point it to the folder where you extracted it too

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP Unfortunately that's the problem, I can't find any audio devices in the device manager! I also have remembered that when the Dell Engineer came out the other week he replaced the memory, hard drive and motherboard, so perhaps it's not a standard Vostro motherboard!

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP That's a further issue too, when I go into device manager in other devices there is a thing called base system device, think there's about four of the buggers, but I don't know what these are and they are crying out for drivers!!

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP Aah, got the drivers for sound and the Ricco thing too. Got a couple of others too, something about the audio on the modem and sm bus or something like that. Searched that in Google and it came up with the Intel chip drivers are missing, but they say if the modem is not being used then these two devices can me disabled! I am virtually finished with the XP drivers now and the system is running a little slow, but faster than Vista. I think there is still a hardware issue and Dell are exchanging this PC next week. I am going to be good though and put all the original stuff back on before they come. I have at least had the experience of using this faulty PC as a test bed for when my exchange system comes, I am definately going to put XP on that machine. A BIG "THANK YOU" TO ALL YOU GUYS WHO HELPED, IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous new year: All the very best.

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP I got XP installed on my wife's Gateway yesterday... First install with SP3 slipstreamed and it all went well.. I got the drivers from a guy on another forum and they all worked well with exception of the modem ( I just disabled it, I haven't used a modem in years anyways)

Re: 1700 Vostro with XP Thanks for that. I just got my exchange PC from Dell yesterday and my faulty system is going back on Monday. I am going to give this one a couple of weeks to ensure all the hardware etc is ok, then XP is going on this one too. Just fed up with Vista, as nothing works with it yet and I don't think it's as good as XP, but that's my opinion!
