Dell or HP ? Need advice ASAP!

Wich brand is the best choice and best quality for the money

Considering the following models :

HP NX7010 with a PM 1.6 /512kb cache/ ATI Radeon 64mb
/512mb DDR / 15.4 " /40GB HDD and XP Pro etc

Dell 8600c with a PM 1.6/1mb cache/128MB ATI® Mobility™ Radeon™ 9600 PRO TURBO / 512mb DDR/ 30GB HDD/15.4" Widescreen LCD screen w. UltraSharp™ tech and so on. Modular DVD/CDR-W (wich means?) XP Home

Both cost equally much but the HP has a larger HDD (40GB) and WinXP Pro. Please help me choose.

Finally, are they both quiet ? If anyone knows about that.

You may want to do some research at pc magazine:

From personal experience, if you "have" to get an OEM computer, I'd NEVER buy an HP (I have HUGE horror stories of the HP crapper my brother got) and have never known anyone to have any "major" problems with Dell PCs.

I'd go Dell in a second if I had to go between those two.

Edit: I just realized these are laptops. My statement above holds true, but I own a Toshiba laptop and think it kicks booty! Sir_Jakontil got the same Toshiba laptop I did right after me and has nothing but great things to say about his also.

I'd go with a Dell also.

I agree, Dell for a laptop if you have to choose between them or HP. I have had both for work, and the Dell was much better IMHO.

Recieved the Dell 8600 laptop days ago, so far so good. Seems to work pretty nice. Feedback soon.
One thing though, any recommendations on how many partitions you should make on a 40gb drive ? I think i split it in to three partitions, one for the OS, one for apps and one for games and music

Congrats Wiking. I just got an 8600c as well and it's a really nice machine!

Did you wind up getting the memory from Dell? I purchased some Kingmax memory(512x2) from Newegg and it's working great so far.

Regards!
