Unhappy Dell Inspiron 1300 Battery Problem

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1300 a few months back for basic computing mobility. Runs great and I have had no problems with it but I noticed a couple days ago that when I try to recharge the battery, it will go to 49% now and no further. It used to charge to 100% perfectly all the time.

I plan on contacting Dell about this in the next few days but I was just curious if anyone else has had a similar problem and if it simply is the case of a battery going bad before it's time.

Does it run for the normal time when on batteries?
If yes, then it could be a s/w problem.

I have an Inspiron 1300 too and I kept losing the battery/plug icon in the system tray. But that didn't affect the battery capacity.

I never really actually timed the battery life. I think it was a little less than two hours before when it went from 100% to 3% (it would just switch off). Now it is significantly less than two hours although I can't say for sure that it is exactly half.
