Hey Brian - it's not clean anymore! Better start over again.

i had issues with old xp sp1 not doing it right on a raid array so i would format and configure first without even introducing windows to the fray. so now that's how i do it, but maybe it's just an excuse to use floppy disks. also it's a lot more satisfying to delete junk-covered partitions in DOS mode. ah, that's right, worthless data, take that!

I just received a new Dell Inspiron 1550 last week and took the advice of one of our members above who explained how he set up his new Dell Notebook.
After removing all the BS (Shovelware) it seems to work just fine.
Since this is my first Dell and, after having 2 IBM's and a Toshiba, I really like this notebook. At least it doesn't have one of them stupid pointing sticks in the middle of the keyboard!!!! I hate them damn things!!!! LOL

Then three days ago, I formatted the hard drive and did a reinstall of Windows from scratch, installing the latest drivers and only the programs that I wanted in there and , Holy Crapola!, what a difference it makes. My Lord, this thing is so much smoother and snappier, starts faster, shuts down quicker and I've got a lot more free RAM than I ever did before.

So I've written a limerick for the occasion!

There once was a laptop from Dell,
That was filled with the software from Hell.
No longer a doormat,
I did a clean format.
And now my sweet laptop runs swell!

My wife has an old Dell that crawls. How do you do a clean install without the Dell extras?
