Inspiron 1720

The MB in my 5150 took a dump and have a 1720 on order along with a Dell Bag so I can transport the new lap top on my Bike............
What's stuffed inside is:
Core 2Duo T8300 ( 2.4 GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache )
Vista UE SP1
17" Wide Screen ( 1920x1200 )
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
320GB SATA HD
CD/DVD writer
ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme

Including tax and shipping I paid 1,787 USD...........

Did I pay too much and is the 320GB actually 2 HD?
And one more thing, If I don't like Vista, how easy is it to switch back to XP?

Good luck with your new laptop. I believe the edit function only works for a few minutes. After that, the post becomes permanent.

Re: Inspiron 1720

Congrats... I purchased a 1720 for my wife some months back. She really likes it, but it is heavy.

Re: Inspiron 1720

With out knowing what kind of warranty you got on the notebook, it's hard to say if you paid too much or not because the warranty amounts to a good chunk of the overall price.

As for the space on the HDD's being across two spindles or one, I'd have to look at the order details for the system to tell you. It would either have 2x160GB somewhere or actually list two 160GB hard drives and a RAID configuration somewhere.

Interesting. You might want to ask a mod. Incidentally, I still have an edit button on my earlier post, so the policy I cited before is not correct either.

Re: Inspiron 1720

Looks like you have one 320GB hard drive in this unit. If memory serves me right you could do 2x160GB drives in the unit. You'd have to configure it as such during the order.

As for the price, it seems to be a price that is inline with what one would expect to pay for a 17" notebook. You have onsite warranty rather than the return to depot, which increase the prices a little bit. You'll appreciate it though if you ever have to use it. Next business day service rather than 1 week turn around. The 9 cell battery and the 4GB of memory also bumps the price. Looks like a decent price all around to me.
