I have wondered if a handheld would work for me but then I think of my wife and her reaction would not be very good. What I find weird is that since I have this laptop that I rarely like to use my desktops anymore. My laptop has the most software and OSes on it and it just seems to handle it just fine. I have even gone so far as to watch TV from my file server on my laptop!

The X51v looks like a fun item to have for mobility though. Let us know how it works out for ya.

When my 2 year old Palm Tungsten C died back in December I bought a Dell X51v. It is a great PDA. A co-worker has a small folding bluetooth keyboard she uses with her Axim to take notes at meetings. I've been using mine since early January and wouldn't trade it for anything else on the market. What ROM version did your's come loaded with?

My Globalsat BT 338 arrived today and setting it up with windows mobile 5 was a breeze. Great looking GPS this is.. Very nice indeed. Feels incredibly solid with a nice leather sack to put it in. Going to try it out in the car in about 15 minutes!

The X51V came with the latest A06 firmware. Fortunately I specifically chose for the English version of the X51V because Dell's international support for other languages is completely lacking!!! A collegaue of mine made the error of choosing the dutch version and they are still on A01 and has numerious very serious issues.

Also accesories is a complete ripoff from Dell... Buying 2 carchargers came without the necessary plug for the X51V itself. Nothing on their website about it... Only the fact that you buy the extra adapter for about 12 euros (20 euros incl. shipping).. They should at least have the common sense of stating with their products that you will need to buy at least the extra adapter on top of the car charger...

Well I have to say the BT 338 GPS is amazing!!! Inside the house it picks up more than enough sattelites. In the car I put it in the glove compartment and it maxes out on satelites. Or I put in on my belt. It auto shuts off after 10 minutes of no bluetooth activity so no worries it the battery wears down when you forget to turn it off. Even so, fully charged it should last more than 15 hours!

Well, after playing with it for a couple of days, tweaking things I had 1 major issue left. Something a lot of X51V users are complaining about. It drops your CF/SD card without any apparent reason. So after turning on the device it wouldn't see your card and only a soft-reset would fix it.

It appears that this (and the battery drain some people are complaining about) has to do with the activesync scheduling. So the solution is the "server trick". Where you setup a fake exchange server profile on your PDA after which the otherwise greyed out scheduling option becomes active. Normally this option is greyed out/disabled. Weird huh... Anyway, after setting the scheduling to manual all is well. You can safely delete the bogus exchange server settings.

Overall I'm extremely happy with my 2 new toys!!

I ran across Aximsite.com back when I was researching the Axim X51v. They have a good community devoted to the Axim line. I applied AO6 and did the fake server trick before doing anything else. I have good battery life and have yet to lose the CF/SD card. I haven't had to soft-reset either.

The only other thing I have done is reprogram one of the seldom used buttons to rotate the screen and turned off the record button - I kept accidentally turning it on. I don't use bluetooth yet, though I have been considering a GPS. Dell still needs to fix the bluetooth stack.

Too bad about the Dell accessories. I was considering buying a car charger and presentation cable from Dell. Does anyone else have a better deal on them? I picked up a Piel Frama case from another site - can't remember where right now. Do you use a screen protector?

I am very happy with it.

Turns out my GPS car charger looks almost identical to my Dell carcharger. I haven't used either of them yet but I'll report back when I do. Could just be that you may allready have a compatible charger.

It also looks as if the X5 charger might be compatible with the X51V's... So dumb me for shelling out another 30 euro's for a way too expensive charger.

But aside from that this is a great PDA!!! I did the same things, just reprogram one of the buttons to go to landscape mode.. The hint about the record button is a good one, I pressed it a couple of times allready by accident.

I got the X51V with a 35% discount price so that is great!

And yes, aximsite.com is a nice community dedicated to the Axims!

Still highly recommended for anyone. There are no issues at all that I can find.

Only thing I cannot get through my head is why MS still includes such a crappy browser on it's mobile 5 version. I installed Opera and it works great. Looking at the same page with IE makes me want to .... oh well...

installed Wisbar and some cool themes and this is one swift looking device. I can also highly recommend eWallet for storing creditcard info/serials/passwords..
