Laptop died

My dad was using my toshiba laptop last night, he was srufing the web and laptop turned off. He tried to power it back up but it wont do anything. Tried a different power adapter, moved the battery and let it sit over night and still nothin. I noticed the power plug on the back of the laptop is a little lose so i dont know if that had anything to do with it.

Re: Laptop died

Most laptops have an indicator to show when the a/c adapter is attached and charging the battery or shows fully charged. Look to see if that is lite with the adapter attached.

If it isn't then gently wiggle the adapter plug to see if the indicator comes on.

If it doesn't then or this is not the problem then I would remove the hd and cd-rom from the system. To see if this makes a difference. If not then I would remove the simm/s and see if that makes adifference.

If all of these fail then I think you may have to dive in and make more invasive determination.

I haven't worked on any Toshibas so I don't know whats available as far as maintenece manuals like for Dells, IBM thinkpad/Lenovos. I've worked on these.

One of them had a loose power connector and I was able to take it apart to get to the power supply and resolder the pin.

Re: Laptop died

I removed the memory, hdd, cdrom, wireless card and tried to power adapters with and without the batter and nothing worked. None of the lights on the laptop show its getting power at all. I think the motherboard fried.

Re: Laptop died

Doesn't have to be the MB. There is a PS like board it has a some components on it. I would think unless you still have warranty on the laptop dive in and take a look at the PS board and adapter pin. I assume you have good battery that holds at least enough of charge to boot the system. That would have eliminated the power adapter. It would also eliminate the PS board. Most adapters supply a single voltage and all other volts required to run the system are derived from that. The battery may have multipletaps to provide the same volt break down to the system.

Stating the obvious no power no bios no boot. Maybe worth while browsing the net for Toshiba MDL### and see if you get any repair hints.
