Looking for a laptop with a webcam

My step-dad is looking for a laptop with a built-in webcam. Here are some of the requirements. I'll post more later.

1. Less than $1000
2. 15" screen
3. built-in webcam

Re: Looking for a laptop with a webcam

Walmart has a gateway with 2gig ram, dual core pentium, 160 gig SATA drive, built in webcam, bluetooth, 15.4 widescreen. I bought one for my wife and it is a good rig. $649 but I think it has dropped even more since then. From doing some research, most laptops have built in webcams now.

Re: Looking for a laptop with a webcam

I'll have to look at that Gateway. Do you think it will hold up too Afghan weather for a year?

I just purchased a new laptop for myself too.

Dell XPS M1530
C2D T9300 (800Mhz FSB 2.5Ghz 6MB cache)
3GB dual channel 667Mhz DDR2
1680x1050 15.4" display with built-in webcam...
256MB GeForce 8600M GT
250GB 5400RPM hard drive
Vista Home Premium
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
slot-load CD/DVD RW
Intel next-gen wireless N
Trend Micro Internet Security 15-months
6 and 9 cell Lithium Ion battery
2Yr In-Home Service, Parts Labor, 24x7 Phone Support
Finger Print Reader XPS M1530
Verizon built-in cellular mobile broadband (EVDO Rev A) (I had no choice to get rid of this. I just hope I don't get contacted about signing up for the service)
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)

The price was $1681 after the $699 discount.

Re: Looking for a laptop with a webcam

My HP has a built in webcam. Supposedly 1.3MP (which doesn't mean much) I have used it exactly once to see if it works I guess I'm just not a webcam kind of guy, but what I noticed about it right away was you can't rotate the lens. So, you have to move the entire laptop to focus on anything other then sitting right in front of it. It would be nice if the lens flipped around front at least if not being completely orbital.

I'm not a webcam person either. I don't think my step-dad is either. I think he wants it so he can video chat with family while deployed.

I know what you mean about the megapixel thing. MPs don't mean crap about quality. I can't stand it when people at work talk about have a (insert number here)MP camera in their phone.

Re: Looking for a laptop with a webcam

You should look at what ACER has to offer. Besides my 3 older desktops and my new ASUS G1S laptop, I have 3 ACER laptops. They are very reasonably priced for what they offer. Actually, I'd like to sell the last ACER I bought. I bought the ASUS because I'm a major impulse buyer And need to recover from that purchase.LOL The Acer even still has the shrink wrap on the top. It's an Aspire 5920 if you are intrested.

I thought the Vostro series was aimed at the buisness community, correct me if Im wrong. I would go with something more like an HP or like you guys said a Gateway.

They are. They are also cheap, and come with webcams. Just because they are aimed at businesses doesn't make them less usable at home. In fact you can configure Vostros with XP Home. For no extra charge.
