| Medion 40566 Notebook Hi all, I am new here and while searching for MD40566 forums I stumbled upon this forum. I was curious to know, seeing as that atleast a couple of you have purchased a Medion MD40566 notebook (and seem to have decent knowledge of the product), has anyone sucessfully installed Linux on it? I am not a linux newbie (nor am I a guru), but I have sucessfully installed Mandrake 10.0 on my laptop, but for some reason when I bring up my X server I cannot get my LCD display to work, it either goes blank or the image is clearly out of sync or something. Using the additional vga output on the rear of the machine works fine on a traditional CRT monitor. And like I said, my built in LCD will display the linux text based command prompt just fine, yet upon booting up my kde/gnome (well that has nothing to do with it, it's plainly the X server that is having problems with the NVidia) the image is lost. I have found quite some information on NVidia GForce notebook AGP cards and Linux, but nothing seems to get my problem resolved. I have attempted to install the NVidia Linux driver, but it gives me some message about some kernel files missing or something (like I said, I am no guru ) If anyone could give me a hand, it would greatly appreciated! Thanks alot!! |

| SuSE 9.0 Hi! I have installed SuSE 9.0 on it, but I had similar problems. First of all, I had to disable ACPI (acpi=off as boot option) to see anything. My first tries to get the nvidia driver work ended in black screens when starting sax2 with -m 0=nvidia. So I edited the XF86config file manualy. This is it, and so it works with the latest driver of nvidia: ... Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry" HorizSync 28-56 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "1024X768@70HZ" VendorName "--> VESA" VertRefresh 50-70 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection ... Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce FX Go5200" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "NvAGP" "1" Screen 0 Option "Rotate" "off" VendorName "NVidia" EndSection Hope this helps you. |
