Mobile T7600 CPU twice as expensive than T7700. Why?

I've a Thinkpad T60, and I'm monitoring the pricing of the Mobile CPU T7600, since I want to upgrade the CPU when the price has gone (sigificantly) down.

What I've noticed is that the going price of the Mobile CPU T7700 is generally half the price of the T7600, while still having better specs.
Unfortunately , my Thinkpad does not allow a T7700 upgrade.

Any idea why the T7600 continues to keep a high pricelevel (approx. Euro 550), twice as much as the price of the T7700 (approx. Euro 270)?

I would guess it is because of that compatibility. For example the AMD FX/60 (939) costs much more the the FX/62 (AM2) just because there is a higher demand for it for people who do not want to have to change whole platforms. In other words, the highest CPU of a given socket will retain more value.

This is true. I'm in that boat right now. Trying to decide to either go with the whole new platform (ram, mobo, cpu) or just get the best cpu for my 939.

By the way... anyone wanna kick me down an FX60 or Opty 185?

Yeah I got the fastest at the time for 939. I was considering a dual core, but there was no multithreaded games out at the time so I went with the FX/57. Now I would rather have an FX/60 but no way am I sinking another $500 or so into 939. It has been over 2 years now and time to upgrade. I am going for a whole new platform. Intel of course
