| Her POSvillian has been getting lines across the screen from top to bottom. The lines appear to be a defect in the LCD, or possibly something at the hardware level in it. It's got ATI mobile bla bla bla graphics, and a 3.0 ghz prescHOT 800 mhz bus. It's really a piece of junk, runs HOT, kills the battery, and the CPU is ALWAYS throttled to keep from overheating. Anybody know what the deal with the lines on the screen is??? They appear when it's booting, on the desktop, and when programs are running. They're white in color, and keep getting more and more. It's got a widescreen LCD, kinda big for a laptop (14xxx pixels wide). I would have returned it while it was under warranty, but she said she can put up with 1 little line on the screen. She refuses to listen to me, I told her it would get worse eventually. |

| HAHAHA, that's just great! Did a google search, and HP has had this problem with TONS of those pieces of GARBAGE! The stupid video card overheats, no doubt due to being trapped with a POS prescHOT roasting it to death! So, avoid HP at all costs, they REFUSE to do anything about it, delete the threads about the problem from their forum, and IGNORE their customers they bent over. The funny part is I told my mom about this, and she got mad AT ME! She's ****** because I've told her that laptop was JUNK since day 1, and now I'm being proven right. You'd think after an experience like this she'd actually remove her head from her butt, but I have no doubt my opinion will be given the same weight when selecting another laptop. She'll disappear shopping one day and come home with another JUNKPILE without asking what I think just like she did with this one. And she wonders why I won't fix it when it gets problems. |

| Re: Mom's HP Pavillian ZD8000 lines on screen. When people do not listen, they don't -- no mater they are your parents, brothers, friends or whatever else. It is something less or more than just I-am-right attitude. To some extent, I am still wondering if keeping silent is a good policy or not. Giving out some comments or opinion is still necessary. But, now I never let myself hoping that people will listen or take the words. Let them live the way they want.

| Re: Mom's HP Pavillion ZD8000 lines on screen. I purchased the laptop about two years ago and it cost me somewhere over $2k but less than $2.5k from what I remember. Anyway the dc power port on the rear of the laptop became loose and the power corded frayed at the male end. After awhile the the battery would only last about 30 minutes or less. Then when the power port and power cable wouldnt stay connected the laptop wouldnt come on. I dont ever plan on giving HP any more money. Fujitsu and HP have burned me, but Fujitsu is another story for another day. Anyway, I just purchased the Asus F3 Series F3KA-A1. I hope I made the right choice. It was a tie between SONY, DELL and ASUS.

| That's the way LCD's go bad. They get lines. I think they all will eventually have that happen. Some sooner than others. |

| It's not the LCD, it's the video card got baked by a prescHOT!!! Anyways, she's at least listening to my opinion this time. She looked at Dells last night, and decided against them. I've got her considering a Sony, I haven't looked at an Asus. What she wants are a built in webcam, decent LCD, and a nice set of speakers (for a laptop). She decided against the Dells because they had crappy speakers, and no latch to hold them shut. I want a core 2 duo, and a 7200 rpm hard drive for her. I'm thinking 2gb of ram, smallest 7200 rpm hard drive they offer, and the next step up on the core 2 duo chip from the bottom. Any suggestions for me that can make her happy??? I can stuff extra ram in it, or upgrade the hard drive if it's a really cheap deal. I'd REALLY like to get XP on it, but that's about impossible. Basically I'm looking for the best price without wasting $$$ on extras. That HP was such a ridiculous bloated PILE! She never used half the stuff it came with! Can you pick up a barebones Asus, and stuff it with your own stuff for cheap??? Like could I get one without hard drive, and ram, and put my own stuff in it??? I could install the CPU, but if it's anything like the other laptops I've had apart, I'd rather it had the CPU in it allready. Is this a good way to save $$$??? |
