The layout of the E1405 is odd. The CPU is actually easier to get to then one of the DIMMS (under the keyboard). It's accessible from the bottom, 2 screws, drop in the new chip, and your done. Not sure if that model even had an option for a real video card. It has that Intel shared memory crap. HL2 is a slide show on it for example lol. Like I said I love taking stuff apart. I'm much better at tactile applications then I am at mathematical ones.
Looks like your laptop specs are smokin' I looked at some Dells when I was getting mine, but I was taken in by the HP displays especially the UltraBright that I have.

Lightbulb

Yeah, actually, the full HD+ lcd 1920x1200 is the major feature for me, followed by the cpu and vidcard.. maybe I'll even go for Go 7950GTX ..we'll see.
And the new dx10 cards got nothing on the top dx9 ones, cept the dx10 itself..

Actually my HP laptop screen only has 1440 X 900 pixels. The cheaper stock screen was higher res then that (forget what it was) so I actually paid $175 more for less res, but there is a 75% increase in color gamut and you can really see it. My CRT desktop monitor looks dull in comparison for example. The screen I just installed in this thread (same as the old one) really looks like poo side by side. Funny I actually paid more for the upgrade on mine then the whole new screen on the Dell. I'm sure yours is much nicer.

Something tells me you didn't get the truelife screen on the E1405.

Naw bargan basement just like the one it shipped with. It's basically an Ebay and email machine so I didn't think it was worth the expense. I don't think I have seen the truelife. I saw glossys available, but they were over $150 more.

Ah ok, the TrueLife has a glossy screen that gives you the higher color definition that you see in the HP. It is quite nice to have. There is a cost differential as you saw. Worth it IMO if you need the higher color reproduction.

If you read the whole thread you will see that I did replace the display for much cheaper then a new computer. It was only $165 or so with shipping.
