| Opinions on a laptop requested (Toshiba A100-TA9C) http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...gon=&langid=EN So i am getting a laptop soon, and this is the one that i am looking at. Feature wise, its exactly what i want, but i was wondering if anyone here had experience with this model, or ones pretty similar to it. The features are exactly what i want, i am mainly interested in build quality and quality of technical support

| does it come with a free upgrade to Vista? For Vista you may want 256MB of memory.

| My usage of this would follow these steps: step 1 - Open Box step 2 - Format Drive step 3 - Install ubuntu The only place Windows may come into play is in a VM, and that would be XP anyway (I will be using it only for development, so MSVS running on XP is more than enough). The only reason i am going for a laptop with a 7600 is that i want proper linux support and nothing has better support than a GeForce with Dedicated, non-turbocache memory.

| I don't think I have to tell you you can get it elsewhere cheaper then Best Buy. Also if you plan to use it for linux make sure they have Geforece Go support. The drivers for the Go series are different then the regular Geforce cards and have much more limited support. You can get a modded INF to make it work but I had glitches when I did it to make it work on Vista. Course now M$ has a proper driver for Geforce Go for Vista via win update

| The linux driver is compatible and supported by NVidia and i would get it from bestbuy since the only other place that sells laptops here (that i would buy something worth $1500 from) is futureshop, and they are owned by BestBuy Keep in mind that there is an exchange rate, and it isnt current, so that price is with a 30% exchange, even though that is way too high

| go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp the geforce go support for linux = 0. Again they can be modified via INF to make the drivers load at all but it will be quirky. Hard to believe that there isn't a better deal then best buy even in the great white north but I really don't know

| That may work even though they don't mention the 7600 go specifically. My only point is not to think the geforce and geforce go drivers are the same. edit: and there is much more support for the plain geforce

| thats good to hear, they look like a pretty good package for the price. SpeedDNM, the card, 7600GO is specifically in the linux specific supported cards list. Plus, the cards are the same, its that NV wants to lock you into using your manufactures drivers, there is no such thing as INF files for linux drivrs, they work NOTHIGN like windows ones!

| I meant for windows with the INF. I admit I know nothing about linux, just when you go to the driver window on nvidias site they show no drivers for linux for the go series, I guess you got to dig for them. For regular gforce they show drivers for about everything. If you know better I believe you of course just I had trouble with the distinction before.

| Linux drivers work a little differently, there are no Go/Non-go drivers, if you look in the compatibility list, it lists ALL cards that are compatible. Does anyone else have experience with the A100-TA9???
