| Page File I know this subject has been gone over a trillion times. But, I was just wondering if it was advantageous to put the page file on a separate partition? I recently have been partitioning the HD to C for OS and programs,D for data and P just for page file. Any real advantage? TIA

| Re: Page File Even though you partition a single HD and move the page file it doen't do much for you since there is only a single actuator so whether it is moving from the page file on the same partiton or the page file on a different parttion. If you have 2 physical drives then it makes a difference because now you have 2 actuators and in effect the pagefile arm is on one drive and the OS or program file and or data file are on a nother actuator. The problem is called arm stealing when you need it. it is in use by something else so unless you are dedicating an actuator/ drive to the page file it really only depends on what other data the pagefile arm is being shared with.

| Re: Page File A separate HD would be the best, but if you only have one HD a partition will do. Especially if you run regular images and want to save space. You could even set the page file up on the primary and also on another HD for better memory management. The tweaking would be specific to your needs and setup. |
