| I use LCDs at work, and CRTs at home. Once my primary CRT at home dies, I'll probably get a 19" widescreen LCD but I'll probably always keep my secondary monitor (extended desktop) a crt to play old games which only run properly at certain resolutions. I voted for: "Want to try LCD’s, but only when my current CRT fails." BJB

| Re: CRT or LCD? I'm still using my ViewSonic CRT which still works well. When I'll eventually replace it I hope to be able to get a good Dell LCD or similar. Right now that is definitely not something I can do, being a student still, oh well.

| Re: CRT or LCD? I have a Dell 17" CRT that is now on its third computer. It's fading - I've got the brightness and contrast maxed out and it still looks ok. Probably not for long though. Then I'll have to figure out what size LCD to get.

| Re: CRT or LCD? As soon as it's financially possible I'm tossing my 19" NEC FE950+ out on its rump and getting a 24" 1920x1200 LCD.

| Re: CRT or LCD? I have a 22" Viewsonic that is, to my eyes, every bit as good as my old Dell Trinitron CRT. The newer generation panels that came out over the last year are even better. |

| Re: CRT or LCD? I've transitioned all three of my desktops from crt to lcd over the last few years, and I've been very pleased. I'm not a gamer, so I went for PVA technology (Samsung's) rather than TN-based panels. That's an important distinction for anyone looking to choose an lcd to keep in mind. TN's are less expensive and have faster response times (generally making them better suited for games), but PVA's provide better color rendition, much better viewing angle coverage, and other advantages. X-bit labs periodically has some very good comparison reviews of LCD monitors, and makes a point of describing the technology they are based on (which is otherwise not always as easy to determine as it should be). Regards, -- Al

| Re: CRT or LCD? I recently upgraded my display to a Macintosh Portrait Display monochrome monitor. It has a 15 inch display with a resolution of 640x870 in a classic beige enclosure and I really don't see how anyone could want anything more. If you could see ABXZone the way I see it, you would understand. Mark my words: those high-resolution color monitors (CRT or LCD) that some people have nowadays are just a fad. ![]()
