| I am getting ready to put together my system today, and wanted to check with the PRO"s before I get started. My system specs are : CUSL2C PIII933 2 sticks of 256 meg PC 133 sdram Antec KS282 case with 2 80mm fans/300w p.s. Mitsumi FDD IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30 gig ATA/100 MagicSpin 56X CDrom Plextor Plexwriter RW 16/10/40 Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card NetGear FA 311 nic card Hercules 3D ProphetII MX AGP card NEC FD 950+ Monitor My questions are: What pci slots do I use for the sound and nic cards, also do I need to mess with the irq settings ? Should I use secondary IDE for the burner and cd rom ? Also should I make the burner the master and cd rom slave ?? I would be thankful for any help. Steve (dfw)Texas |

| You will find many conflicting views on the topics you ask. My suggestion to you would be to search on those topics and from that point start experimenting with what works for you. If you run into some issues, then ask away, you will more than likley get answers to your questions from this forum. fvlmasl2

| I would suggest.. start with the CPU, 1 stick of SDRAM and the vid card. Go to BIOS and set 'Load Setup Defaults'. Reconfigure the BIOS without Power Management, Boot Virus Detection and disable Legacy USB. Also disable any ports and controllers you aren't using. If everything's OK, add floppy and boot from that (it'll need CDROM support later). Add Primary Master HDD and Secondary Master CDROM. PCI Slots 2, 4, 6 are preferred when adding sound cards and NIC etc. Load Windows. INF drivers (Installation Utility) next if 98SE or below. Hope that helps ddd |

| I would recommend PCI slot 2 for the sound card and PCI slot 4 for the NIC card I would not mess with the IRQ settings unless I had a conflict. I would put HD on Primary Master, CD on Primary Slave I would put Plextor on Secondary Master. This is how mine is set up and I have had no problems. Good luck. Sounds like you'll have a kick $!! system. |
