| Flash always in center of CRT.... I'd like to take some cool pics of stuff direct from my monitor (not by grabbing them in this instance) all is good but the damn flash always appears on the center of the monitor. i am using a canon ixus 500. if i dissable the flash then the pictures look fuzzy (makes sense i suppose) so that's not the answer. this also happens during the day or night and even at night i light the room pretty well, still i suppose it could be lighter. mind you even during the day in this particualr room the flash goes. anyway you get the idea.. so is there an answer to this ? or is it mainly because the monitir is glass and the flash bounces back and therefore appears on the final picture. question: is there a method of taking pictures of a pc screen without the flash showing up in the center of the final picture, without using million dollar equipment, or taking the monitor outdoors, or using floodlights (which i dno't have) to turn night into day etc.... thanks... |

| There are two different techniques you can use. The first is to use the flash (but this is not likely to work well) but take the pictire from an off angle to ther screen. That should reduce the glare back from the flash. The second technique is to manually set the camera for no flash and then set the distance, shutter speed and aperature manually. It will take some experimenting to get them right, but, that's no problem with a camera whereyou can erase the bad pics. Focus (setting the distance) is the most important part since you can edit the pic if it is either too dark or light with a simple photo editor that allows you to adjust the brightness/contrast and gamma. Freeware like XnView has a built in editor that you can use for that purpose: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enhome.html |

| Take it without a flash, but use manual settings to set the exposure for much longer (like 1 second). Now, if you have a 1 sec exposure, you need the camera PERFECTLY still for that second....so if you don't have a tripod, set it on something that will keep the camer absolutely still. |

| Try winding up the contrast and brightness up on the monitor as much as possible, while still maintaining a good picture contrast. You need as many photons as u can get out of that tube. I dont think you're going to be able to avoid the flash reflection on the monitor glass. Another way to do it would be to take screen shots you want and also take a daylight pic of the monitor then just cut and past the screen shots onto the monitor pic with some graphics software! [Edit: Paragon beat me to it !!
