| Multifunction (all-in-one) printers ?? I'm now thinking on getting an all-in-one multifunciton printer instead of a regular printer to replace my current and virtually defunct printer. I'm currently looking at HP PSC 2210 or perhaps the next models up PSC 2410 or PSC2510. I'd like it to have network capabilty (even wireless if possible) so that I can connect it via ethernet for laptop or computer to use. I'd like a scanner, good printer (photos too even if don't print often), copier and maybe a fax machine. It doesn't require any extra expenses for a fax does it? Somebody was telling me that they thought you had to pay for a "service" or something if you wanted to use the fax. Any comments on these models or suggestions of other models to consider? |

| Unless you use fax regularly, I'd drop the fax requirement. I had an OfficeJet K60 Multifunction and I used the fax capacity hardly ever. I actually used Word's fax function direct through my PCI modem more often. On a multiu-function machine, I would recomend that it have a flat-bed scanner versus the feed through scanner like I had on the K60. Practically worthless for copying anything except another printed sheet. I use the HP PSC 2110 which I picked up at Sam's and it is a decen't machine. ---Watch out for the HP software / drivers for XP though. If you activate the USB connection before the software gets installed, it messes up the services that get installed and then during shut down you get process hangs.

| The HP PSC 2110 instruction instructs you to leave the machine disconnected until the HP software reaches a certain installation point, then it asks you to connect the USB before it proceeds past a that point. I rebuilt my XP Pro machine last week and didn't follow instructions (typical "I know what I'm doing" move) , anyway, if you activate the printer on the USB port before the software installation reaches the right point, Windows starts loading the driver for the printer automatically and this screws up one of HP's background exe files it attempts to install. End result is that that particular exe file does not successfully unload during shut down and hangs the log off process. This problem is easily avoided if one follows the proper instructions. I'll learn that rule some day... ![]()

| I'm starting my own business and needed a fax so in typical geek overkill I got the hp officejet 4110 all-in-one. I'm happy with it but it doesn't sound like what you want (no built-in networking). I have it and 2 other printers setup on a Windows 2003 Server machine that I use as a file and print server. Wildboar is 100% correct on the install method and the fact that if you need a good scanner a flatbed would be best. Since I've already got a scanner I only use the scan function to scan docs for faxing. |

| I think I'm likely going with the HP PSC 2210. I'll forego that network ethernet requirement and share it through my main rig instead. Anybody have any experience with it? |

| Ok...it's all over. I ordered the HP PSC 2410 with the optional duplexer for automatic duplex printing. |
