Problem with bootup I am building my first PC with the ASUS A7V133 motherboard, AMD TB 1.2 Gb processor, 2 128 PC133 SDRAM memory chips, Maxtor 40 GB hard drive, and visiontek 64m Geforce 2 MX400 video card. I have assembled the pieces and when I turn it on, the following occurs: LED on center of motherboard comes on, fan on processor and motherboard comes on, I get an LED on the floppy (3 1/2" drive) that comes on, and that is it. I have a Sony trinitron monitor attached to the video card. The LED on the monitor remains amber color, never turns green, and of course nothing on the monitor itself. I do not get any beeps, and have tried the speaker connectors both ways. I have tried a different video card from another computer that i know works, I have checked the seating of the video card and memory cards. Tried only one memory card at a time in different slots to see if any are not working. Tried PC100 memory card from a working computer. I am not sure all the leads from the case for leds, etc are connected in the correct orientation, but I believe they are connected to the correct locations (the power button is working however). If anyone has some ideas about what to check next or where to go from here, I would greatly appreciate it.

My guess is your power supply. Are you using AMD approved vendors for the PS and is it at least 300W? AMD chips are very fussy about power unlike Intel's, but if you read through this forum even with intel chips some people are having problems with the PS.

Nobody likes to hear this (usually you have looked at this several times already) but you have to be absolutely positive that all your jumper and switches are set correctly. It is sooooo easy to misplace a jumper. Walk away from the computer for an hour or so then come back, take out the manual and start at the beginning and go over one more time to make sure all settings are correct. I don't think it is your power supply since you are getting lit LED's and it's a 300W supply. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but AMD doesn't require anything special from a normal case P/S (except mega wattage) does it? Since this is your first time building the computer make sure the board is not shorted. Double check where/how it is secured to the case. If everything is the way it should be then I'd remove the RAM and CPU and reinstall them. If that don't work, try clearing the CMOS RAM. There should be some solder points labled "CLRTC" near the battery on the board. Check your manual for exact location, To clear the CMOS RAM you just short the solder points. Still don't work? Then I'd disconnect the IDE cables, primary, secondary and floppy from the M/B and all data cables. I would plug in the ATX Power cable from the P/S to the M/B, the ATX power switch cable from the switch in the case front to the M/B, the speaker cable and the CPU fan power cable. Any beeps? NO? Crap, you've got a real problem. You can be reasonably sure that it's in either the M/B, CPU or maybe P/S since you already changed out the video and RAM cards. At this point all I know to do is start changing out the M/B, CPU and P/S to try and isolate what is causing the problem. I hope something above helps solve your problem. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can add some more to help you get your system up and running. Good Luck... Byte...
