i didn't think you were, but i think if you did try it, you would start a fire because you will be charging the batteries too fast with too many amps.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe nothing would happen. There is circuitry inside the UPS to convert AC into DC to store in into the battery. There is also a secondary circuit that converts DC back into AC. If there is no outside connection to the wall, both the input and output AC voltage would be in phase, so...

Maybe it would be just like if you connected two batteries together positive to positive-no current would flow.

Then again, I could be wrong...

Well I certainly don't wanna be standing near you when you test this.

If your joking then ha, ha but if not let me explain something to you.

The only way your UPS batteries will be charged up is by the constant input of 120vac from the wall outlet. Your UPS output is 120vac however without constant input of 120vac your UPS batteries will decrease below usable power output. Sticking the UPS output of 120vac WILL NOT RECHARGE your UPS since this output is not constant and will decrease as you put a load on it which is your UPS. I would not stick your output from your UPS into your input of your UPS because it isnt a real load and this is like putting a wire on both ends of a battery without a load and then the wire gets hots and opens. This open is a destructive thing which is what could happen to your UPS if it doesnt have some type of protection for something like this which it wasnt intended to be used for.

MY fuse blew a long time back - around 1983 when I got my first Intel 8088 CPU 4.77mhz PC with storage of only one 360k floppy drive

If I plug my APC 650 Back-UPS Pro UPS into a 120v wall outlet it would probably be better off if I DID plug its output to its Input as our voltage is supplied at 230v He HE !!
