| Using a DVD Lens Cleaner is OK once in a year or so ?? Hi, Is it ok to use a DVD Lens Cleaner once in maybe a year or something ? Or do most of you advocate against using a lens cleaner irrespective of the time factor ??? Because im sure my laptop must be having some small film of dust at least owing to the fact that ive never lens cleaned since i bought the system more than 3 yrs back. It at times doesnt read some discs too well. Ill have to eject and put it back and then it works fine. So any ideas ?? Thanks. |

| Re: Using a DVD Lens Cleaner is OK once in a year or so ?? Hi plainman! What exactly do you mean with "DVD Lens Cleaner"? A cd with little brushes that you simple "play" in yur drive (maybe putting some cleaning stuff on the brush first), or some special liquid and a cloth or cotton bud to clean the lens with manually? If i had a laptop and i wanted to clean the lens of the dvd drive (can't hurt, may help) i'd try the cotton bud and liquid approach. Greetings Dru

| Re: Using a DVD Lens Cleaner is OK once in a year or so ?? Hi DRufuss,,,, Hope all is well. Yes i mean ay normal mode of cleaning. Yes the dvd with the brush thing is an option. I had one of thise but it didnt come with any liquid to put on it. Second maybe the earbud treatment. I would maybe use the earbud method. But what liquid do you put on it ? Is it IP Pure Alchohol ??? (Isopropy something....) |

| Re: Using a DVD Lens Cleaner is OK once in a year or so ?? Hi plainman007! Thanks for asking, i'm fine. How are you? IMHO the "laser lens cleaning discs" are of little to no use. I doubt that those flimsy brushes can really clean anything. I think that Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud would be the best things to use. Also you should have easy acces to the lense in a laptop drive as most of them have the laser-unit built into the tray. Dip the bud lightly into the alcohol and softly and wipe gently across the lense (very gently), that should cure the disc reading problems (if a dirty lense was the cause). Greetings Dru

| Re: Using a DVD Lens Cleaner is OK once in a year or so ?? Hi,,, Im fine Drufuss ! Thanks for the quick reply. Ill go the ear bud way. But i just wanted to telll you what happens, since maybe you might have another opinion. I sometimes put in some DVD movie discs and they dont play and get stuck at certain chapters etc. But when i put the same disc into my chinese make crap portable dvd player the same disc plays without hiccups and even plays smooth thru the problem spots which but repeat themselves on the laptop. ???? Im perplexed. Also how periodically do you repat this cleaning procedure with safe results ? |
