That would be 256 + 12 = 268

268 Min & 268 Max

The 12 Meg is for overhead in case of a dump.....

Thanks for the quick reply Tomp, but should I once heard something about a pagefile=1 setting. What is that and how should I set it up.

I think that just means that it's turned on. Here's some good stuff. Click on the Hard Disk drop down box:

I read in some computing magazines (PCWorld and PCGamer I think) that VM should be 2.5 times you ram, not to exceed 512. Any thoughts on this? This is what mine is set at (512) and I experience no problems, no lock-ups, very stable. Although I have experimented with other values and also had no problems.

That's true, if you have a small amount of RAM. With today's RAM prices, most people have enough so you can make it smaller thus faster. Use my formula to make sure you have enough for a "dump".

Hey Tomp

Do you set that in 2000 by the paging file size?

I have another question - I tried to move the paging file to a different partition as I've heard this increases performance. It didn't seem to work - any how-to's for this? I must be missing something...

Yes, it's called Page File. I know how to move it to a different partation. Do not use a different partition if it's on the same physical drive as it will make performance worse! Let me know if you still want to do it. Read the "how" section here:

I'll take your word for it. As you know - I've got my performance going pretty good right now. Looks like there's no need to mess with that one...thanks...

You do have the page file set to the same size (Min & Max) though, right?

Yeah - It's at 384 - I have 256 - you think 256 + 12 is best for high and low?

If I put in another stick of 256 so it totals 512, would I need 524?
I tried 768 and it said not enough space. Is this because that partition doesn't have the space? I want to set it up so it only uses the memory...

I have a small 500 mb partition, I put my swap file in. Mim 500 and MAX 500 memory size. One stick of 256 and sometimes 384. Never a problem. Ozzie, maybe if you had a 600 mb partition and put your swap file in it! ''

The Swap/page file should always go on the lowest letter drive, unless you have a different physical drive that is equal or greater in performance. This is a must for best performance!

Ozzie, probably not enough space on partition. Yes, always add 12 Meg to total amount of RAM. You have to use a page file for crash dump, unless you don't care to ever need a dump. There is a tweak here that will allow to to allocate percentage of use for swap file usage:
