| He leeghoofd, watch out! Little tweaking on my side and i´ll take over. 3939 points with my PIII-S@1.5GHz. Individual fps: GTS1: 16.3fps GTS2: 11.1fps GTS3: 21.6fps Man, that "CPU tests" are lame. "Like flipping through a comic book" wouldn´t be the right description. "flipping" would be way faster. Greetings Dru

| OCed the card... Hiho! Someone told me "those who don't OC can't do it"... I really don't know why I did it, but I did it. Here are the three results I got with my OCed X800Pro. Highest artifact free OC I benched was 560 / 560. The memory maxed out at 564MHz (at least ATI-Tool 0.0.22 told me that at 571 there were some artifacts, so I went a little bit back). Temperature was around 60°C. Result with the newest Omega-drivers and NO OCing: 4637 Highest OC result 5439. (see screenshots) Now I will switch back to stock speeds because the card is fast enough.... P.S.: 560 is not the max for the core - it will go higher. But I don't think that this will make a big difference.

You have to remember that this is just a hobby for many people who do it for the challenge. No different than ordinary people who take their cars to the drag strip on weekends to race. People will always push the envelope, so to speak, and it doesn't matter whether it's computers, cars or something else. Peace. Last edited by sierra_bound : 10-11-2004 at 01:44 PM. | |

ohoh.... you got me.I wanted to install new drivers because I sometimes do not feel comfortable with the original Catalyst drivers. And at that time this old question "hmmmm, what would be possible if..." aroused. Well, 560/560 is nothing unbelieveable good. It's OK and it showed an improvement in the benchmark 3dmark2005. To be honest: IF games would show the same behaviour "heavy stuttering" without OC and "nearly no stuttering" with OC I'd OC the card. I apreciate the improvement of the driver much more than the OCed improvement! Nearly 1000 points difference between the non-OC results catalyst vs Omega! That's really good but I think that the Omegas produce a worse image quality so the decision which driver to keep is not that easy for me. Why I am so often in the benchmark sections? I check my system with benchmarks if everything runs at the usual speed ranges. I try to optimize my system with "legal tweaks" without compromising stability. BUT I also upgrade to a new video driver if it decreased the benchmark results but fixes other bugs. I am not very happy that I use the Omega driver right now. Maybe it's just a mental problem from me but (as I said before) the image quality seems to be worse with that driver compared to the Catalyst 4.9. I'd never just tweak my system for the benchmarks - I use it the other way around! In the end I don't care if my results is 4000 points or 4500 points. It's important that it says 4xxx because this result shows that everything is as it should be. I'd start to worry with something about or less 3000 points. So it's just an indicator (and stability test).

| Have you tried the beta 8.07? It's a good driver for benchmarking. Not sure how good it is for IQ. I use benchmarking for stability testing too. I don't run Prime95 anymore. Prime tells you nothing about video performance. I test with SuperPi 32M and 3DMark. If my system can pass those tests, I know it's stable, regardless of how high it's overclocked. For the most part, there isn't much practical about benchmarking. I just do it for fun. Likewise, there's nothing practical about a pro drag racer going over 300mph, but it's fun to watch. There's the practical side to computing and the non-practical side. Both can give enjoyment. |

2378 with DNA driver 3.1.4.10b. That's a 63 points increase, not bad. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=155627
